[ She didn't expect anyone else to show up at all, really. Whereas back home her bodyguards would probably have found her up here to drag her back to somewhere which would be more 'safe' for her - the thought was almost laughable - here there was nobody to seek her out, nobody to find her. It was why she could stand here, on top of this building, as if it was nothing special.

And yet now there was someone, out of sheer coincidence. Ange was actually already standing pretty close to the edge, only leaning against a slightly rusty old fence to the rooftop's side. She wasn't on the other, more dangerous side of the fence though, not just yet, although the thought seemed tempting. The girl didn't know why exactly, but lately she couldn't help but keep thinking about how useless it all was - she was all alone, all her family in this place had disappeared long ago, even if she would go home she would just be stuck as a toy for the witches again, so.. why should she go on? Just to spend more time here being incredibly lonely, with a mere cat to keep her company? (She hadn't even taken Bern-chan up here, instead leaving the animal back in her apartment alone.) ]

Jack. [ She says the name a little absent-mindedly, as if she is snapped out of her thoughts by it. ] I didn't know you liked to hang around in places like these.

[ At least she manages to get her expression and tone as deadpan as usual. ]

[ Jack shifts a bit. He'd been used to other people being out late here- between the trolls and the vampires- but he'd actually been sleeping lately, so he'd somewhat forgotten. Ange was one of the last people he was expecting to see, though. ]

I sneak out a lot back at the Court, and it's mostly buildings there. [ That's something, too. He'll have to spend months here rather than there again. ] I guess you could say I'm kind of an expert, but I did most of it while I was crazy, so it doesn't mean much now.

[ Speaking so casually of 'while I was crazy'.. still, yeah, this Jack is different from the one she met before in this place, even if it's still definitely the same person. ]

I don't know. There's always something special about being up here. [ because it means you're so close to just leaving this world - the closest you can be to being above the regular world and up to another. ]

Back the last time I was here, I was up here so much that it kind of stopped being interesting. Haha. [ It's a dryer laugh than usual. He laughs a lot, and this one obviously isn't the same. ] It's the same thing with Spero, now. I guess I should visit Dissimulo more often.

[ Usually he just walks around the rooftops to get around, so he notices Ange's position. Right at the edge. ] What're you doing?

[ She would normally notice the difference in the laugh, but she only hears his words half either way - not really paying attention to it, more like it's some sort of background music or whatever while she's lost in her own thoughts. She isn't snapped out of it until she realises he asked a question there. ]

Me-- ... Ah. [ For some reason even Ange finds it weird to say what she was contemplating, so instead she just answers; at least she manages to make it still sound deadpan. ] Just standing here, you can see that much, right?

oh no ange ;_; collarpops December 30 2011, 17:19:44 UTC
[ Jack doesn't notice how lost she is- after all, what does his rambling matter to her, anyway? So he continues on as if there's nothing going on. ] Well, yeah. I was just wondering if there was anything else. Not that there needs to be.

[ He walks up to the gate himself; but he's not leaning on it, as she is. He has noticed that part, but he hasn't asked her about that yet. ] ...God, it's cold.

s-sob, it's okay, she's still here now... isolatedpiece December 30 2011, 18:42:16 UTC
It's December, after all. Did you expect this place to become some tropical resort during the winter?

[ It doesn't sound snappy in the slightest though - she can't muster up that kind of emotion either way, and at least she's usually somewhat friendly with Jack most of the time. With a sigh she turns around, to face the rest of the city beyond the gate rather than the rooftop itself. ]

'Course not. But it was still a little warm back home. [ Everything keeps coming back to that. It's not like he urgently needs to get to the Court, like he did last time- but he's only just came back here. A lot has changed, for him. And nothing has been that great since he returned. Not like it ever was, but he could really use something at least a bit fun. ]

You're lucky, Ange. You only went back for a few hours, right? When you left that one time.

Yeah. [ She doesn't sound too pleased at him bringing that up though, more because she can't understand his reasoning just yet - lucky? Even though she could at least do something at home, at least try to find out the truth, instead of uselessly being stuck here..

Ange frowns. ]

How is that supposed to make me lucky in the slightest, though?

[ After a second of hesitation, he leans over the fence himself. He's not happy at all, but he puts on a reassuring smile anyway. Conversations against fences at night are things that happened back home. ]

'Cos you didn't have to get used to being out of here.

Still means I was barely even home to start with. I've been stuck in this place for over a year now, with only a few hours worth of time back in my world to make up for it.

[ even as he smiles - reassuringly - her own expression is just her usual deadpan one, even though there's something decidedly hollow about it today. ]

To be honest, I think you're luckier than me, Jack.

I guess we could debate about that for awhile.

[ Has he ever seen Ange happy...? Now that he thinks about it, probably never. But if someone was evaluating their entire lives, she would be right; it's not as if his family was murdered.

That isn't exactly an uplifting though, is it. ]

But...thanks. Nobody here can be that lucky, anyway.

No. [ her voice is a little bit heavy, still looking out over the city down below. ] We're all stuck in this hellhole without any chance of escape unless they let us go free from this place. And then they decide to have some fun by messing around with us. 'Sure, let's turn them all into monsters, surely that'll be fun!'

[ for a moment her tone almost went to enragedly bitter, but she seems to settle down again. ]

Ah.. It's all just useless, isn't it?

Heh, pretty much. [ Ange should be happy he isn't like he used to be; he'd be yelling her ears out. Now, he's a lot calmer, even if he's still got an awful lot of willpower. ]

Why do you think it's us? Out of all people, they dragged us here.

[ oh, don't worry, she already had the 'yelling her ears out' part back when he was influenced by wrath.. now she just shrugs a little, brushing back some of her hair. ]

Maybe we're just the most interesting. I was pretty 'popular' in that sense back home too, so it wouldn't surprise me. People think it's fun to mess around with me for some reason or another. [ finally she glances at him again for a moment. ] Do you think it's the same for you?

[ He stops, and thinks. He was never especially popular at school, but not a "loser" of any sort; there were whispers when he was skipping class and after he returned, but they were more curious than anything.

What Ange had told him- her entire family had been killed. Surely something like that would have made Ange's case somewhat famous, since their deaths weren't of any natural cause. But, what happened to him at the Court would probably stay there. This was a completely different situation. ]

...Kind of. I've had really weird stuff happen to me, sure, but it's not like the things you've been through, I don't think. But that could be it.
