dream [02] - flying, falling

The sky was dark, the wind was cold, and the city lights below were oh-so bright. As she climbed over the flimsy fence and stood on the thin ledge on the roof of the skyscraper, Ange closed her eyes and focused, breathing deeply. For a moment she said and did nothing, holding onto the fence with one hand, before opening her eyes and glancing up at the moon.

"Stupid..." she muttered on a sigh. "...That's it."

Without another thought, she released the fence and turned all in the same motion, slowly falling backward. She would fall from the roof of one of the highest buildings around, intentionally, of course, and would die. Then, she would be with her family. Death was certainly welcome after all those years of misery.

As she fell over the edge, calm as can be, she suddenly caught sight of a strange figure...a girl, young in appearance, floating in the air. Quick-witted, Ange grabbed the fence and spun around, alarmed by the blue-haired girl in the sky.

"Your help is needed."

That was all she said. Ange gasped, not knowing what the stranger meant, but at the same time, understanding completely.

"Your family has been forever locked in that day of twelve years ago," the stranger continued, with little to no expression at all. The enemy is the Golden Witch, Beatrice. She is the one who forces a future of loneliness on you."

Ange's eyes widened as she stared back at the doll-like girl. This witch...was the reason her family was gone? The reason she was alone?

"Only the final Beatrice is capable of standing up to her. In other words, you, Ange. Ange-Beatrice."

She spoke so emotionlessly, sounding detached, almost as if this had nothing to do with her. The crimson-haired teen only watched silently, taking it all in. Then, she inhaled sharply and demanded:

"If I defeat her, will my family come back?!"

The blue-haired girl paused, her long hair moving with the wind. "I can't promise anything. But, I'm sure if you believe, you will surely bring about a miracle."

At that moment, just as Ange's heart leapt with possibility, the door flew open somewhere behind her. There was a scramble of footsteps, and a mix of voices, but she ignored them for now.

"Sure. I'll go along with that," she replied cooly, once again composed.

The guards rushed toward her, calling out "Wait, be careful!" Suddenly amused, the red-haired girl turned to her aunt's henchmen with a smirk.

"Aah, it's useless, it's all useless. Send a limo to pick me up. After all, everyone'll be with me. Goodbye, see you again."

With that, she leapt off of the roof in one dramatic bound. She heard the guard's startled intakes of breath and attempts to reach her, but it didn't matter. She met the gaze of the witch, Bernkastel, and as she was falling, she knew that she was leaving this world for a better one, one where she could be with her family.

...She was being pulled into another world, and...

Ange kept falling, bracing herself for impact...

Bernkastel nodded as they disappeared into the dimension of witches, and...

She was so lucky there were a few awnings beneath her...

...Everything was okay, for now.

Ange woke up slowly this time, her heart pounding, as if she really had been falling. She sighed, closing her eyes, before the feed turned off.
