CHIKO HINANAI [REIMU/TENSHI ROLESWAP AU]
So what the hell is this?
Like I just said, it's an AU in which Tenshi and Reimu have swapped roles, with Tenshi as the shrine maiden in charge of solving Gensokyo's incidents and Reimu the discontent celestial. The idea originally popped into my head thanks to a conversation about how awesome it would be if Tenshi would show up as a playable character in one of the danmaku games, and grew into this.
What's Tenshi's AU backstory?
It starts out more or less the same as it does in canon--that is, she's the oldest daughter of a family of priests in charge of maintaining Gensokyo's keystones. However, she and her family never became celestials, and therefore she remained Chiko Hinanai, miko-in-training. Growing up, she was deeply jealous of her friends in the Human Village, feeling that they had more fun than her because of the way her role restrained her. She acted out often, attempting to somehow bring excitement to herself since she couldn't go and seek it out herself.
Presently, her training is complete. However, her parents are still in charge of the shrine, and she won't be taking over until they've either kicked the bucket or are otherwise unable to continue. She's still the member of the family closest to being in their prime, though, so whenever there's an incident she's in charge of handling it. That's just fine with her--she finds her other duties to be horribly boring, so excuses to do anything more exciting are fine with her. And, yep, she's still in the habit of behaving in ways that bring her the maximum amount of attention... and ire.
What exactly does that change about Tenshi?
Her personality isn't quite the same as it is in canon. She's still bratty and self-indulgent, but she's more aware of the way her behavior affects others and her responsibilities as the keeper of Gensokyo's keystones. As such, she's more capable of being responsible and genuinely polite than her canon counterpart. You know, when she wants to be. Often times, she doesn't. But, hey, she's probably just trying to goad you into attacking her, since she wants to play danmaku and she's not allowed to shoot first.
She also dresses in a hybrid of her canon outfit and a shrine maiden's robes. She's still got that peach hat, though, which we all know is the most important thing.
So... abilities? Sword of Hisou?
Tenshi does not have the Sword of Hisou, and she cannot manipulate the ground the way she does in canon. She still has her keystones, though, which are generally used in a manner similar to Reimu's yin-yang orbs. The keystones themselves are not unique, and new ones can be created by the Hinanai family relatively easily. As such, Chiko is also perfectly willing to use them as projectiles/sit on them/bash people in the head with them/etc.
What about Reimu?
Like canon!Tenshi, she's a human who became a celestial through service to a god. However, she managed to fit in much better with Heaven's lifestyle than Tenshi did, enjoying the leisurely pace and lack of responsibilities. It shows, too. Due to being in a more or less constant state of relaxation, she is much more laidback than her canon counterpart. God help you if you disturb her while she's trying to enjoy herself, though.
So what about Scarlet Weather Rhapsody?
It happened... kind of. Actually, it was a completely different incident, but it was still caused by Reimu at about the same time that Tenshi stirred up trouble in canon. What did Reimu do to cause people problems, you might find yourself asking? Well...
Sometimes [Celestials] descend to earth, say absurd things that trouble normal humans, and return to heaven.
That's what she did. It troubled people so much that several of them decided to track her down and ask her wtf she was talking about, in fact. Of course, as I just said, she doesn't take kindly to people disturbing her carefree lifestyle, and therefore fighting ensued whenever someone looking for her turned up in Heaven.
I want to ask about something else that you didn't mention here.
