On Thursday, I went to SF with my parents. Went to the Wharf, took a self-tour of the Balclutha and Eureka, ate at Sabella & La Torre, Ghiradelli Square. Went to the de Young Museum. I had a lot of fun, with my parents, surprisingly. I love the de Young. It was rebuilt really nicely.
So, when we went to the wharf, we parked across the street from the Cannery, in the "Opthalmology Garage." I fell in love with that parking garage. EVERYTHING was in set in FUTURA, one of my favorite typefaces -- every sign, floor marking, warning, everything. The sign next to the elevator that said "Welcome to the Opthalmology Garage" was set up to emulate the reading charts at the eye doctor, and the signs on the walls that said which floor/area you parked at were slightly blurred except for a circle that was to depict a glasses lens... The text within that "lens" was sharp. It was great. And it was FUTURA. 0_o
Yes. I am a GrC nerd. I love fonts. Too bad I didn't take pictures in the parking garage, I think that would've been pushing it.
The Progenitors, by Charles Houghton Howard. This was probably my favorite piece in the whole museum. I was seriously staring for a while. Mostly at the black/white gradient. It's perfect.
I loved these glass pieces. I couldn't find the plaque for the life of me, so I don't know who made these and what the title(s) might be. =(
New Year's Eve will consist of washing laundry, buying contact solution, dinner with boyfriend, and possibly bowling? I don't know. But I'm looking forward to it. But not to going back to SLo on Monday. Fuck.
