Veronica Mars
I've been watching Veronica Mars. I'm maybe a 1/3 of the way through the second season, which I'm enjoying far less than the first because the pilot episode was SO FUCKING GREAT, but then everything that followed was such a terrible disappointment, and now Veronica is dating Duncan, and my rage cannot be contained.
#1. It was rape. She was under the influence and unable to consent. "He said it was consensual," DOESN'T ACTUALLY MEAN IT WAS. If they'd pulled the "he was drugged as well so neither of them were really able to consent" thing, MAYBE it would have been better, but when he's all, "YOU'RE MY SISTER AND I DID IT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS WRONG," that means he knew what he was doing.
#2. THEY THOUGHT THEY MIGHT BE SIBLINGS. SERIOUSLY. "Oh, it turns out we're not related. Whew, what a relief. LETS DATE AGAIN," is the stupidest load of crap, what the fuck. If you thought there was even the possibility you could be related, I think that would kill any and all future boners.
It seemed like it was going to be so incredibly satisfying. Things were so awful for Veronica, but she was SO STRONG, and it looked like it was going to be the most satisfying kind of h/c, with her being hurt but then getting revenge and being strong and hilarious and awesome. And instead it's just a steaming pile of crap.
Which, okay. I'm only reacting this strongly because I like the show enough to want it to be AWESOME instead of stupid and rapey, but whatever. It is stupid and rapey. >:(
So, anyway, I guess that's where fanfic comes in.
Circle Jerk by Fox1013 was awesome and looked at some of the fucked up parts of the show. It was exactly what I was looking to read, and also just the kind of fic that I like anyway, so A++ all around.
Another thing that drove me crazy was the way they kind of just skated of the stuff with Logan being abused (that one episode was PERFECT, with the haunting scene with the belt and his mom sitting there drinking and the MUSIC being played, oh my god. But there was never the scene I was hoping for where Veronica discovers the marks on his back and then ... whatever.
Tinkerbelle and I by mswyrr is a scene with Logan & Veronica that looks at that. I wish that had been on the show!
And then Broken Toysby theohara is a really sharp, interesting AU that looks at what would have happened if Lily hadn't died.
Sooo... that's pretty much all of the fic I've read. And it was all AWESOME. Do you guys have any recs for other stories? I'd really like to read stuff that deals with some of the BULLSHIT from the show, but I'm also only on the 2nd season, so preferably nothing that only makes sense if you've seen the whole series.
