Macquarie Con Initial Encounters

Dec 13, 2009 08:06

Havn't Been to Mac U in ages, so going back and not only finding that everything was in the same place - but that MacCon was actually in my old stomping ground (if you could call it that) was kinda humbling.

Parking was a bitch still - that never seems to change. I had hoped to nab a parking permit from one of the peoples I know - but it turns out that this would not have helped for a number of reasons - so $18 it cost us.

As we strolled it, I saw Metcalf in one of the gaming rooms, and he was coming out of registration as we approached. I greeted him broadly with "Hey! Metz!", to which he looked at us, very surprised and shouted back something along the lines of 'fuck me, there goes the con.' From what people said in pathfinder, it seems that Metz is well known down here - but more of that later.

I wanted to get in on a Shadowrun game, so hadn't committed to anything. JK had asked previously through Chris and Mike if I could help out, and I had been non-committal. He asked himself when I rocked up, and I said that I would if I couldn't get into SR.

Rego revealed that the much coveted "Steam and Shadow" would not be running.

Buggah.

Month and months ago I was all faux shitty with the GM for running a game that was so awesome sounding, but that I couldn't make. Turns out I was wrong about the making thing - so duly booked in, announced s such, ended the sulk war, and rocked up. (Actually sulk war ended because I couldn't think of a better comeback)

So, yeah - to hear that it wouldn't run was a huge thing.

Much kudos for the GM and knowing when she shouldn't be turning up. She can be quite stubborn sometimes and rock up when she's really not feeling well (actually been my experience for most of her games, and they have all rocked tho).

Rego also revealed that it would be unlikely to get into an SR game unless we split up - to which Mike sort of latched onto and had me saying that I would help out, and so would Shannon and Evan.

It seemed certain, so we engaged in organising games schedules - again...

Thus begins the 5 person waltz of players, games, con organizers, and confused players. I wanted to see if we could get into a Shadowrun game. We got confused over lack of slots in Mage versus helping with, and consequently, none of us booked in, and we booked other games over the top. Evan and I got in a SR game that afternoon, Shannon booked in to a Pathfinder. Shannon and I booked into "The Foxes Eyes" for the next morning - Evan booked in for Pathfinder. Sunday afternoon has us all booked into "The Mean Streets of Rome". Waltz over, everyone bows, and runs away.

So then things got started, and I'll try and write more about that later.
