Anthony blinked at Terry for a moment, contemplating the concept of family honour. Not that he particularly cared about honouring his family - not in the way that the Carrows wanted people to, anyway. "I more meant that, if I failed all my exams, my mum and my dad would bloody kill me," Anthony told Terry, trying to remain lighthearted. "Besides, what would the two of us know about family honour? Our families are blood traitors or fornicators with Muggles or whatever you call it." He scoffed and kicked up his feet, resting them on the arm of his chair.
Having said this, though, he contemplating Terry's question. He wondered what exactly Terry meant by it. It seemed like kind of a stupid question. They did practically everything together just by default, considering that they had most of their classes together and slept in the same room. Terry knew, more or less, how he was doing. "I'm as good as I've ever been," Anthony said. "You know. Life sucks. School is a pain. I hate certain blood purist professors. No worse than usual."
Anthony hadn't meant to cause any offense - he had mostly been facetious when he said that their families didn't have any honour - only by the Carrows' standards, and Anthony didn't think very much of the Carrows' standards. The Goldsteins had honour - maybe, he supposed, but Anthony hadn't been Sorted into Gryffindor for a reason, and therefore he didn't think very much of chivalrous things.
After seven years of being friends, Terry probably knew Anthony a bit too well, because the moment that he said that he was sorry, Anthony opened his mouth to protest that it was okay, and not a big deal, and just to forget about it. But hearing his follow-up, Anthony didn't know quite how to respond. Terry, it seemed, knew that that was probably part of the reason he was moping, but admitting it was hard, so he just sat in silence, pretending to be preoccupied with his Muggle Studies text, for a minute. "It isn't really a big deal," he finally insisted. "It's stupid of be to get upset about things like birthdays right now. There are so much more important things going on, you know. So I shouldn't even focus on it."
