In all honesty, Mandy didn't care about the alibi. What was important was doing this for Stephen, and making sure that they've covered every avenue possible in finding Kevin. She hated seeing Stephen so sad about his best friend, and she knew that no matter how hard she or anyone else tried, they weren't able to compensate for that in any way ( ... )

"Don't worry about it," Stephen replied, patting the pocket of his trousers with his free hand. He always kept a stash of Muggle money around, because he never knew when he'd need it and didn't like making Kevin pay for everything. The coins and paper notes might have been confusing to people who had never seen them before (much like they had been to Stephen before Kevin), but the young Ravenclaw had studied them, not for any reason but to learn. He hadn't anticipating actually needing to use them without Kevin, though.

"Boxes you talk into?" Stephen glanced at her, confused. What was she-- Oh. "Telephones? Like, the public ones? Yeah, maybe, uh..." After years of visiting Kevin, he knew the route fairly well. It was still nerve-wracking, though. There was what they called a "tube station" nearby - which was like a train station, but underground, hence, the "tube" bit. Or so he thought. He wasn't completely sure. "There might be something nearby." Stephen was glad he'd tucked Kevin's phone number into his wallet before leaving ( ... )

Mandy nodded, looking around. "Yeah, those. I'll do that. But you just go and I'll follow and we'll hopefully find a coffee shop." It was more than a little disconcerting to be completely in Muggle London with no safety net. It was loud, dirty, and it seemed that there was something to see everywhere.

She stepped closer to him, uncertain and bewildered. Maybe she shouldn't have come; she felt incredibly out of her league. "Muggle studies has definitely not been a help for this," she muttered. "Okay. Where do we go? What do we do?"

"Right. All right." Stephen also felt out of place, nervous, uncertain, but he was determined not to let it show. Kevin had always told him to act natural and normal - whatever that was - when they were out and about. So Stephen didn't want to draw attention to himself, but he was fairly overwhelmed by all of the activity around him. He didn't want Mandy to worry, though.

Stephen snorted and grinned at her. "'Course not. You think our Professors have actually set foot outside the Leaky, ever? God forbid they venture out here." He didn't think their previous Muggle studies professor spent much time in the Muggle world either, but he couldn't be sure. The class would be much more realistic and true if a Muggleborn taught it.

"If anyone asks, this is our first trip to London. Nearly the truth, right?" He spied the sign and stairs for the station across the street. "There's the station. Do you see one of those box things?"
