Her breaths quietly rasped in her head as she hiked out into the wilderness. Foliage crunched beneath her slender feet, crickets chirped and the occasional owl drawled out a hoot. Even with the full moon, it was dark beneath the branches of the Hundred Acre Woods. The atmosphere was permeated with the aroma of the decaying leaves coating the forest floor, ripe with the beginnings of dew. However, the slight chill of the night was enough to cause the Princess to don a sheer robe over her garments, though she hardly needed any more warmth; spring had graciously toned down the brisk air.

Per the usual, the princess couldn’t sleep. Whenever she did manage to nod off, her nightmares scared her back awake within a matter of moments. She felt trapped; trapped in her room because of curfew, trapped inside herself due to having to share chambers with the ignorant Alana, and trapped inside the whole, damn school. The notion made her sick to her stomach. Jasmine had sat around until she could take it no more. She threw on her robe and golden slippers, stuck to the shadows, and quietly snuck out for a breath of fresh air and a walk through the woods. She was confident that the late hour would provide protection from all sets of eyes, save for one: Goliath’s. Though, she felt she was in the clear of any threats, including those of being caught by the gargoyle, as soon as she slipped through the school gates.

Jasmine now slowed down her pace, taking deep breaths. While her mind and heart still ran amuck with fears and guilt, this was probably the most at-peace she had been in months. When she felt confident she was far enough from the school to remain hidden if someone were to come looking for her, she slipped off her robe and rested her standing body against a large maple tree. She felt warm from the hike, and wanted to feel the firm roughness of the bark on her back and arms.

Another deep breath and she closed her eyes, allowing her mind to slowly -oh so very slowly- turn into a blurred hum as she focused solely on the soothing sounds of the night forest.
