She sat down opposite the doctor, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear as she gave him a smile of greeting.
"Elisa Maza," she said, by way of an introduction, "Although I'm guessing you already know that."
He was browsing her medical records, after all.

Sweet tossed the file down on the counter and scoots his chair up a bit.
"So, you prefer Maza? Elisa? Miss Maza? Whatta they call you?"

"Elisa's fine," she said with a smile, "Although I got 'Maza' a lot on the force."

He rose from his chair and motioned to the table. "So, have a seat, Maza. I'm gonna wanna see those ribs. How they healin' so far?"

"I try not to judge people by their appearances," she said as she took the offered seat, "And I definitely try not to judge them by their jobs."
If she had been more judgmental, she wouldn't have allowed herself to become friends with people like Elizabeth Swann or Jack Sparrow. And she certainly wouldn't have grown so close to Goliath
"They're healing well," she replied. "I was lucky."
Lucky that things hadn't been more serious and lucky that her injuries had been patched up in the field.

He wasn't kidding, either. Lieutenant Helga Sinclair was his walking example of what he considered lucky. How she survived that fall, let alone was able to recover from it? Should have been impossible.
It was somethin' about that crystal that did it. Three places where your back is broken? Yeah, death. That woman woke up, not a break in that spine. Sure, the recovery was long, painful, and dangerous enough. First time he ever saw her take something for pain.
"Let's hope it don't come to that too often."

The job and the impossible, wonderful friendships that she'd made. Although Elisa had found herself in trouble far more frequently since meeting the gargoyles, she still considered herself lucky. She wouldn't have traded it for anything.
