The door was already cracked, but it creaked open further at Mulan's touch, revealing the barest hint of flickering light from within. Do-dads and baubles of all kinds adorned the wallspace that wasn't already taken up by tapesries and shelves full to bursting with books and bottles and, by the look of one shadowy shelf in the corner, an assortment of human skulls. There was no electric light in the room but candles were scattered wherever they could be reasonably placed; the room seemed hazy and shimmered with their flickering

Ohkay, the decor, it was creepy. Dr. Facilier. Even creepier. The man was not nearly as large as Shan-Yu was, however the hun never talked to himself or had a penchant for skulls as decoration. She stepped forward hesitantly, tucking her hair behind one of her ears. She resisted the urge to run her fingers through it, because it felt as if her every move was being followed.

She didn't know how she was supposed to open up to this guy, but she'd have to try her hardest. More punishment was the last thing she needed.

She stood awkwardly in the middle of the room, occupying her hands with the edge of her skirt, not quite knowing what to do with herself.

"I guess..." She looks up tentatively, "I'm not really sure what we are even supposed to be talking about."

"Why, anything you like." Facilier made a sweeping gesture at the center table, one side set with an ornate, almost regal-looking wingbacked chair, the other with a well-worn leather one. "Your professor did mention that he wanted me to... help determine some issues you may or may not be having with your roommate--" his tone was dismissive, but the keen gleam in his eyes said otherwise-- "but first and foremost your job is to relax. Come now, how am I to understand anything about you with you so tense an' riled? Have a seat here."

"Anything?" she nearly scoffed. "That's a lot of area to cover."

She walked slowly across the room and sat down in the chair that looked most for a student and made herself comfortable.

"Beyond the roommate..." She made a sour face, "There is the entire cross-dressing event, the dishonor I brought on to my family, and my extreme lack of--"

Whoa. She cuts herself short. She goes a bit red and if Facilier credits himself as any sort of people reader he's sure to notice that this is about her love life... well, to clarify, her lack of one. There was still a lot of pressure at home, both familial and social, to get married, it wasn't something she liked to talk about or get into...

AKA a place Facilier would love to prod.

But on the contrary, Facilier appears to be all ears, his long fingers folded in front of his face and eyebrows raised in interest. "I'm afraid I'm not entirely clear on all that, to be quite honest," he admits without skipping a beat, "but the fact remains that all this... tension comes to light when he is involved. And it tends to have--" he chuckles, remembering how irritable Scar had been when he came to Facilier to arrange the meeting-- "cataclysmic consequences, am I right?"

"Yes, mostly..." her mind has wandered back to the incident in the forest,"but sometimes, if we can manage to stop arguing, we can work together..."

Mulan looked down, her hands giving into the old habit of messing with her hair.

"Are we really going to be talking about Kuzco the entire time?"

She was unsure if she really wanted to talk about that subject for too long. Or at all.

"Aw, don't close off on me so early! Here." Facilier turned away for a moment to rummage around a nearby shelf, then returned with a stick of what looked like homemade incense wedged in a tiny holder. "It's not much," he said with a shrug as he set it on the table and took his own seat, "but it's got a nice, slow burn. It'll help calm your nerves, getcha to relax a bit. It won't do to be so tense all the time, you gotta know when to take things slow an' easy."

Then, with a flick of his wrist, he seemed to snatch a thick deck of cards from midair, cutting the deck over and over with one hand. "Now, if you don' know what to talk about, I could always give ya a hand."

Mulan kept her eyes on the deck of cards, wondering where the heck did he get those from?? She shrugged her shoulders a bit. Her hands left her hair, if only for the moment, and landed in her lap.

"If it would make things go faster, I'm all for it," Though she had to wonder. "But what exactly are you going to do?"

lolz no, I literally responded like a half hour ago, not to worry

Facilier spread the cards into a wide fan, holding it out to Mulan expectantly. "Three cards, if you please," he said. "One is for past, one for present, and the last for future. Choose away, and I'll do the talking for you."

SWEETDEAL.

Mulan reached out and carefully took out three cards. This seemed a bit juvenile to her, but that wasn't her main concern at the moment.

"Alright. Now what?"

What does she mean, now what? Facilier made a face, then quickly smoothed it away with another grin. Getting impatient with her wouldn't do, he obviously had to work a little harder to convince her, is all. Fine, then he would.

He took the cards from her hands and flipped them over one by one. "Past, present, and future," he said, indicating each card. "Assuming I do my job right, I'll find out a great deal about you from this alone, so let's take a looksee, shall we?"

He peered down at the cards though the growing haze from the incense, then indicated the leftmost one of the three. "First, the Hermit. A desire for quiet and introspection following something of an... upheaval. Perhaps a sudden change in circumstances or life direction?"

Mulan peered at the cards, vauge, but accurate. Okay, she'll bite.

"You could say that. My life hasn't exactly been a smooth road...."

She looked up, trying not to show any hint of curiosity, "And the rest?"

Facilier gave a low chuckle as he tapped the second card with his finger. "Why, it's The Emperor, of course."

Her eyes widen and she leans closer to the card.

"The emperor?"

Facilier raises his eyebrows. "Of course. The card for discontent and unrest despite favorable circumstances." His lips twist into a smile. "Or, you know, perhaps it just means emperor."

"Well... I mean... I've met two emperors..." Her eyebrows furrow in concentration,"I don't know which emperor that would be referring to, though."

Content and unrest despite favorable circumstances... she couldn't believe that could be talking about Kuzco... But did it even make any sense for her own emperor?
