i know exactly what you mean. I'm prone to pulling out the harmonica and guitar when i get tipsy. i'm alot better. i attribute it to: 1. lack of negative self talk 2. lack of thinking. music is best when you don't have to think. when it just flows out of you. when you don't play it, it plays you. I've seen people play so fast, you know there's noway they could be thinking. their eyes are even closed.
also, this post reminded me of when we were talking and your were thinking of what you do best. here's my question: has there been anyhting you have done that you have not accelled in? You seem to not look at stuff like that. (ex:. your undefeated fencing that you dind't even realize) i'm sure you know you're good, but you don't boast about it. And upon reading this, i'm sure you're making a list of stuff to prove me wrong. (prove me wrong there)
here's my challenge to you: you relearn violin. I will learn violin which i've been putting off since august when i bought the damn thing. we have till we see eachother next to be good.
The answer to your question is yes. I frequently suck horribly at fencing. There's an awful lot of garbage you haven't seen. Also, in terms of excelling at things in life, it's just a ridiculous matter of who you happen to be competing against etc. anyway. I might as well be laughing about being the tallest girl on a floor full of dwarves with better asses than I. I don't give a $*#()$, it doesn't mean anything, too relative. I want to surprise myself with something I never saw coming, rather than to just live up to my own expectations. Then you will hear me crowing about it. Trust me.
Anyhow, in reference to our conversation about forcing yourself to work through your weak points, I still stand by what I said. God, I hope I am right, otherwise I've just spent four years walking around handicapped for no apparent reason.
Remember, "People should do what they were meant to do, yadayada, pursue the things that are easiest..." Snork, Whirr, ($)$#). What you were talking about extensively recently
i remember that i just didn't get the weak points thing. & also not necessarily do what's easy, but do what comes natural. still further yourself though. hmmm... you make it sound so...underacheiver. damn you, woman!
