The other day, a new exhibit opened up at Blaffer Gallery called POPulence, and I love it so much. Its full of bright colors and just great stuff. Everyone really should come by and see it. We had an opening for it Friday night, and man oh man... those rich people act a fool when it comes to art. There were 438 people there and it was a full house. There is this floor piece made of cloth flowers and it looks really cute. One person actually BENT down on the ground to try and touch it. Keep in mind that when you first come into the gallery, it says "Please do not touch the works of art". People just don't get it.
I was on the second floor for the opening in the back with the $100,000 Takashi Murakami scrolls. Yes, Murakami... the Japanese guy that did the multi colored Louis Vuitton. People got so close to them that their noses were almost touching them. If I can see the LV print in them from 3 feet away, I am sure you can. And seriously folks, when you come into a museum/art gallery, please do NOT lean on the walls. Some idiot in a motorcycle jacket leaned on one of the walls and left a nasty little brown stain. Then he tried to get somewhat crazy with me for telling him to get off. Would you lean on a wall at the Smithsonian? No? Well don't do it at Blaffer.
All craziness aside, there is some truly wonderful artwork there, so come see it if you have any free time. It will be up until August 27th.
