back from vacation...

do i want to be european? do i just always want to be on vacation? or do I just need more friends?

i've returned from my london vacation. it was perhaps one of the best vacations i've been on in a long time. there is something about spending a week with people who have known you for the past eight years that is incredibly comforting...even more so now that i live in a large city far away from from everything that is familiar. good friends are hard to come by. i'm reminded of how lucky i am.

the vacation went something like this...

fri-sun: traveling thanks to the air india disaster that was my flight. NEVER choose the carrier no matter how cheap your tickets.

sun night: a trek up primrose hill to see a view of the city. i was struck by the limited amount of tall buildings. dinner at an italian restaurant complete with delicious gnocchi and gelato.

mon: played the tourist at the tower of london. dinner at wagamama. the highlight of the night, pretentious hipster dance party “DURR” at The End. e was told at the door that he wouldn’t be allowed to enter next time because he wasn’t punk rock and roll enough but since he brought three women along they would let him slide this time. brilliant. the night actually ended up being one of my favorite nights there.

tues: shopping in camden town. a night of not indian curry on brick lane. early night of pool and foosball in the dorm pub.

wed: beautiful, sunny day trip to bath. dinner at a spanish tapas restaurant followed by too much drinking in the dorm. in the spirit of college days gone by of course.

thurs: lunch at the tate modern. disappointing. tried to go to Jamie Oliver’s restaurant but did not make reservations thus we headed to sketch. i’ve never paid so much for a drink in my life. ambience was that of a hip hotel/modern museum with deep house and electronica spinning in the background. a sensory treat.

london is a very clean city. there were no garbage cans in most places yet people did not drop their trash on the floor. amazing. new york city is very much the opposite. a dirty, smelly, very loud large city.
