Summary: Susan and Lucy have given up and are doing their own thing.
It’s a regular occasion for them, getting together on days like this. Watching the sun rise high pass mermaid seas as a family.
They have their packs, their thick blankets to wrap around their cold quivering forms. Their horses are tied to an old tree, resting by the river.
The sisters are on a hill near their castle of Cair Paravel, overlooking the deepest sea. At the tallest peak of the highest hill, they wait for father sun. They will be the first ones he sees when it begins to rise.
They’ve stayed up for hours to watch the glorious ginger start streaming in.
They watch the sun climb up the sky, brightening up the dark, feel rays of warmth on their face. Susan and Lucy beam. Smiling at each other they turn to the sea, pass the coast and to the sun.
Usually of four, now lacking two, they clasp the others hand; hearts flutter at the warmth.
They watch it together, at peace, the light in their eyes mirroring the bright sun. Their brothers still tucked safe and asleep in their rooms, missing this, trading it for the chance of sleeping in.
