It started out simple enough

I was just looking at how different polyrhythms related to each other. By the end of the weekend, I had sketched a 3D chart.

If this means I'm a nerd, good god I love being a nerd.

uh woops, sorry for mispelling "divide"

The numbers are divisions of a measure (or any unit of time, really) So 1 is one measure (a whole note), 1/2 is a half note, 1/3 is a half note triplet, 1/6 is a quarter triplet, 3/4 is a dotted half note, 1/5 is a quarter note from a quintuplet, and 5 would just be five measures. 1/9 could be an 8th note triplet in 3/4 time. 1/15 an 8th note triplet in 5/4

specific polyrhythms are created by relationships of movements rather than exact location in the chart. For example, you get 3/2 by going left then up, it doesn't matter where you start.

usually the further away one rhythm is from another in the chart, the harder they are to play together.

i'm pretty obsessed with this chart right now. probably just a phase
