Not your Olive Garden's tiramisu

So listen.  I don't even really know what tiramisu is exactly.  I have boycotted restaurant tiramisu because of the ubiquitousness.  Dirtbunnies hate hype.  But I saw a recipe for pannetone tiramisu and I thought it might be an interesting way to make use of at least some of the gigantic chocolate pannetone I got at Christmas time, and I actually ( Read more... )

First of all, I am enormously impressed by all the crap you know for not being a professional pastry chef, what with the folding and the silk and the textures and the improvising. I'm not even sure I knew all those wordsSecond, I think I love Kirby. I was mostly sold by the hearts and the adoring face, but seeing him in the sink sealed it -- please, don't tell Tiki ( ... )

Awww. Thanks. I find that not very many people cook anymore and it's too easy to amaze people. 'S kinda embarassing, and I feel like I have to remind everyone that it's just a homemade bran muffin forcryinoutoud so let's not make a big deal, mkay? But occasionally I go out fishing for compliments. And so when I say I'm going to take care of Marco with soup and maybe some meatballs, well, I can make damn good soup ( ... )

What is the base of this soup, is it tomato or some sort of clear broth, or what? Marco's so small, I doubt he eats much -- could I may have some, as well?

Awwwwww, Kirby! How long have you had him? And what make you pick him out of all the other shelter (I assume you got him at a shelter) doggies? How long did it take him to trust you, and sort of Mr. D and Tiki? AWWWWWWW.

I don't know if Lady Gaga is actually good, but her music is catchy as hell, and sounds very 80s to me, so I'm down with it. I think people either obsess wildly over her or hate her b/c of the hype and b/c she so derivative musically, though I'm not sure she pretends not to be. This and this were big hits, do they sound familiar? Set your teeth on edge? And, for something completely different, here's Christopher Walken doing the latterETA: It's a natural reaction, I swear it is. (Plz don't tell me otherwise.) I dunno if you were a Seinfeld fan, but you know how George always comes up with good comebacks later, and periodically tries to bring subjects back up so ( ... )

We adopted Kirby from Lost Dog Rescue in March 2006. I had a friend with an awesome dog and I started thinking about getting one in the fall 2005. I first saw his mugshot in October, accompanied by a sappy little blurb along the lines of "this little guy must not have gotten much love because he doesn't seem to know what to do with it." That was all I needed, but Mr. D wasn't convinced that a dog would be a value-added member of the household. I worked on him for MONTHS ( ... )

Wow, so your first dog was a serious project, huh? It's really great that he's been so wonderful you ended up with a Tiki, as well. (Where did HE come from? Same place, I assume?) How is Kirby with other dogs, do they freak him out or is it mostly humans that are the problem? Poor little guy, with SUCH A PRECIOUS LITTLE FACE! (My family had a pekingese that turned up at our house and adopted us. Apart from never stopping peeing in the house, he was a wonderful little dog -- smart and ballsy and totally, utterly fearless except with strange men. Horrible to think about where those fears come from.)

Oh man, really? I can't decide if I wish I lived there or am glad I don't -- my half-beagle moved in with my dad when I moved to NYC, and I refuse to get another dog while she's still around, but all those beagles could really do a number on my loyalty.

Heeeee. When he stumbles out of the bathroom, yelling "SAY VANDELAY"? Man do I love me some George.
