So....

Am I nutz?

Quite probably.

You see, I gave myself a wee challenge earlier on this year. It's one I've given myself every year for...oh...about the last four, if remember correctly. And that is to enter and complete tha annual Nanowrimo. (No, I don't have time to do a proper link today - always stuff up anyway. if you're interested, Google, or Scroogle, if you're a conspiracy addict, is your friend.)Basically, the idea is to write a mini-novel of at least 50,000 words within the month of November.

I first came across this concept a few years back when reading a Xanga friend who was doing the Nanodance. The idea appealed for all sorts of reasons. But every year so far, I've come up with a feeble excuse why it would really not be a good idea to do this. Too busy, too distracted, too whatever. Too scairt, is the real reason, if I'm honest. Too scairt of failing. Because when you set yourself a goal, and then announce it in a public place, there's a certain desire to fulfil said goal. Save face and all that. Of course, I could've just shtayed shtum about it, but where's the point of that? So far, you guys and the Manpet are the only ones to be in the know. The Manpet is his usual encouraging self. He's great, you know. As if I don't say that about him constantly.

Being at the arse end of the world sometimes has its advantages, so while all the Usains were still sleeping their little clogs off, we Kiwis were pounding the pinkies on the keyboard. I didn't stay up/get up at the crack of twelve. I started at eight(ish)like a sensible person of increasing years. So far, I have 1894 words completed, which is over the daily requirement, assuming you write every day. Of course, mathematics being what it is, not writing every day means you have to up your word-count when you do in a steeply inclining graph. Seems like not a bad start, but when I go to the forums and read that other wrote the same amount in an hour or so, compared with my three plus, my heart sank. Damned if I can turn off the inner Editor.

Feel free to cheer quietly, or go "Gah - tosser!!"

Whatever takes your fancy.

Laterz.
