09/27/2006 ROBERT D. YOUNG ORWELL - Robert D. Young of Orwell passed away peacefully on Sept. 24, 2006, in his home. Bob was born in Orwell on June 28, 1915, son of Russell S. Young and Mabel Wells Young. He was educated in Orwell schools, Burr and Burton Seminary and Norwich University receiving a B.S. in electrical engineering in 1936. He married Margery Aileen Plue on Sept. 5, 1936, and they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. He led the First National Bank of Orwell for more than 70 years as cashier, CEO and director. He was elected Town Treasurer and Trustee of Public Funds from 1945 until 1985. He was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church of Orwell and served as treasurer, deacon, keeper of the town clock and caretaker of the lawns for many years. He was raised as a master Mason on Oct. 7, 1937, at Independence Lodge 10 F& AM, in Orwell and served as master and treasurer. He was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Heidt, a son, Bruce H. Young and Bruce's wife Rosalind. He is survived by his wife, Margery, and their four other sons, Robert C. Young and his wife Kathryn of Burlington, Roger S. Young and his wife Dale, Peter B. Young and his wife Barbara and Mark S. Young and his wife Susan all of Orwell. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 32 greatgrandchildren. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, at the First Congregational Church of Orwell. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the First Congregational Church of Orwell, c/o Carla Ochs, Treasurer, 10 North Shore Lane, Orwell, VT 05760. Arrangements are under the care of Mallory Memorial, Funeral and Cremation Service, Fair Haven.
