It's both scary and invigorating to think that over the past 8 year seeing the president at this event would have been an impossibility. On the other paw, having us dragged through the sewers for so long may be just what we needed to motivate the kind of progress we've been seeing, and hopefully will continue to see. ^.^ Also, he addresses the ( Read more... )

I'll beleive progress has been made when he signs the bills and Executive order to actually do something. Until then he's just saying words with no action.

Oh ye of little faith, beaten down by the previous administration; no long able to tell truth from lie. I understand your hesitation, but I believe that he'll follow through. ^.^

Look as much as I am a liberal socialist that doesn't mean I trust the government. it means I have a respect for what it can do. But the Federal Government has a tremendous amount of power and the Executive branch has accrued an heard of levels of power in the last 100 years. I'm skeptical and distrustful simply becuase we have to watch them and hold them accountable. its the only way a democracy can truly function.

I felt this way since the 80's George W. Bush had nothing to do with this. I disliked his policies and disagreed with how he treated his office. That does not change the fact that all politicians must be distrusted until they prove otherwise.

We, the people who want equal rights, are waiting.

I believe he'll follow through too. But meanwhile, we are waiting.

He might make us wait till elections. When he needs our votes.
I'll bet you a nickel (Canadian, not US) that don't ask don't tell isn't repealed until 2010 elections are over.

It seemed to me that the speech was a very flowery, skilled retelling of the same thus-far empty promises that he's been peddling for the last year and a half. He has the power to effectively end DADT with an Executive Order, but has chosen not to. He could also make a statement against the anti-marriage initiatives in Maine and Washington State. He has found time to go to Copenhagen, invite Rick Warren to his inauguration, and state his belief that marriage is between a man and a woman when asked about Prop 8. I do have hope, but it's fading. So far the best thing I can say is, "At least he's not Bush." But that's not exactly setting the bar very high.

Do you have two LJ accounts? I have this feeling I've seen your other account around.

I don't, no, though sometimes things I post are re-posted on other people's journals, or my posts are re-posts of other people's posts that are just uncredited to the original poster.

Perhaps I'm just paranoid, but it feels like your phishing for information, though I couldn't say why. I've never had any other accounts, or even ever had a different name for this one. I'm very upfront about my views and stances, and am more than happy to approach conflicts head on.

I did make my account friends-only, but that was because members of convert_me began trolling my journal, not because I'm trying to hide anything. As such, perhaps you can better understand my apprehension about providing photos and other such things. :P

Can I ask what this is all about in the first place?
