As Ben and I were about to head him off to work, the manager lady stopped by for an inspection. Ben told her he was leaving that moment, but let her in, and I went back to the rooms to shut the doors because Josh, Ben's roommate, was sleeping and the sound carries very easily. Naturally, she got suspicious of this, and asked why, and Ben explained. (Not that really she should have any reason to go into their rooms anyway, the snoop. That's a very personal area.) She wasn't happy. She looked around the kitchen and living room, and nagged Ben about the dishes not being washed, old food being out and trash not being taken out. Which I feel fine about - their food situation is disgusting. Ben and Josh don't know how to rinse dishes or even carry them to the sink -or they puts them in the sink with all the leftover food on them. There's a mutton leg in there right now. They even have a garbage disposal, and yet food will not be scrapped into it or the trash. Grrrooooosssss. I thought about cleaning the bath tub today, but didnt want to buy cleaning supplies.
So her yelling about that is kinda a blessing. But then she tells Ben, "You need to go to the office to see about the roommate situation." Ben asked, "Roommate situation?"
"Didn't you get the letter?"
"What letter? What situation?"
*silence war* Finally she walked off, just as Ben was saying, "I dunno, maybe Josh got it, but he hasn't said anything..."
The whole situation was weird, Ben was being ruder than usual, which kinda pissed me off. Yes, you're getting ready for work, but this IS your manager person that you'll have to deal with for awhile. You get more with honey than vinegar. And her attitude wasn't good either, in reaction to the apartment and Ben's attitude. Both are at fault. But I was kinda wondering if she wasn't referring to ME in the "roommate situation" because she sounded really disapproving, and wouldn't talk about it in front of me, but kept looking sidewise at me. I'm not a roommate, but it would be easy to get the impression that I was, because I'm often at Ben's apartment.
Went thriftwhoring today - didn't find a lot. 80's bangle peach colored bracelet, a neon pink soft leather belt with a heavy gold threaded buckle, 1 vintage handkerchef (which I accidently tore a small hole in trying to get the price label off - I HATE when they puncture through cloth to get the price tag on it), and 1 moderned head scarf in kinda a dark blue green for swing dancing. I'm a big fan of hankerchefs for swing dancing. My Dad uses them for EVERYTHING - working on the car, working in the field, blowing his nose - I've always been a little freaked out with the blowing nose thing, but that's partly what handkerchefs were FOR. But I use handkerchefs for that as a last resort - I don't like the idea of putting a used handkerchef back in my purse or pocket. Sweat is one thing, boogers are another.
I didn't find any sewing machines at ALL today, which was really what I was looking for. Anyother day, there'll be TEN sewing machines in every thrift store; Today, only one ?1930s? one. I actually looked it over, but was leery of the frayed electric cords, and it looked like it needed a GOOD cleanup. If it'd been an old treadle sewing machine, I would have tried it out and bought it. I first learned to sew on my Great-grandmother old treadle machine. I spent hours at her house, sewing away on scrap fabrics, making "pockets" (sometimes with no opening, hee hee) for her.
I just really want to get my kitten skirt done. : (
Letters you keep forever
Tightly folded, tucked into corners,
Beside the bed, under the bed, above the bed
for nighttime reading
In boxes and hopechests, tupperwear and underwear drawers
Some on pictured paper, $15 a packet,
(you never finish the packet)
Others torn from scrap, thoughts of the moment,
before being taped to longer notes, in chronological order
"Hey!" "How are you?" "Dear" and "Sweetheart"
"Love" "Your Friend" "Forever" and "Thanks"
Sealed into envelopes, saliva mixed with glue,
peppermint flavored
Never sent from sender....
Those are my favorite ones.
YESTERDAY --
I saw Abby and Danny yesterday while I was trying to get my library fines paid off! I owed the Lawrence Public Library $72. o_0 I can't find two expensive books, plus late fees. So I talked to them about it for awhile, and paid off the late fees at least. But I got to talk to Abby, lead Danny around the library so Mama Babes could get some printing done, met another little girl named Mimi whos a bit older than Danny but about the same size (Danny's gonna be TALLLL), and then got other errands done. I picked up my dresses from the seamstress. I may end up trying to make a strappy dress into a halter dress....I just dont look good in strap stuff. Something about my neck on my shoulders just doesnt look right. Also picked up my mom some shampoo, and started a bad tension headache. Just before John's birthday kidnapping. I was pretty grumpy and in pain, and Andrew is very loud, so it is just as well that I had to pick up Ben and leave the birthday crew to more celebrations, so I could get more meds down me, for the head and stomach.
Off to pick up Ben!
