Зима надії та Пристрасті навколо символіки

Interesting videos about originality of Ukrainians and national symbols of Ukraine was broadcast this evening at Novy Channel. To save these documentaries for granted I found it out in web and downloaded at the Vimeo video-sharing media resource. So now for your attention two movies - Зима надії / The Winter of Hope / Зима надежды [ukr] - 1996    and Пристрасті навколо символіки / Passions Around The Symbols / Страсти вокруг символики [ukr] - 1991

The first video is about so called "back to the future effect". We all remember when an autumn of 1991 bloomed with spring blossom of a yellow and blue colours. A hope about an independent democratic Ukraine become stronger. That means that this country must become wealthy, fair for humans. It is because an independent country can not fetter rights of their citizens and human can not be miserable in a democratic society. It was our hope...
But in a five years some people was disappointed about no changes. There was huge expectations from the beginning but there was not results. So, Ukrainians started to think was an independence the right way for the country or maybe it will be better to return the Soviet Union again. This movie is about the crimes of the red government which occupied Ukraine. During the period of imperialistic red terror of USSR the chauvinistic government was trying its best to eliminate historical memory of Ukrainians. But after the collapse of the USSR previously occupied nation started its own revival.

Very interesting introducing for the second video.

At the beginning of 1991 at one of the Art performance the Chinese artist Mao Mao appealed to Ukrainian President who was Leonid Kravchuk to change the colour position of the main national symbol - blue and yellow flag. She said, if it will stay the same not right the country expects imminent decline and degradation. The Country will be surrounded by traitors and it will cause collapse of an independent state. An artist said that yellow above and blue below make a hexagram P'i. According to the Classic Chinese Book of Changes (a.k.a I Ching) hexagram P'i is one of the four worst combinations. It means "you must be careful, your surrounding do not understand you. You are arguing with your friends without any grounds and instigate enemies, Do not start any important case because you will not get success no matter how many efforts you make." But returned colour position when yellow is upwards and blue below makes a reverse hexagram Tai, that means "blossom, unnecessary and small goes, big and important come, happiness and development". In response, the president joked saying what for Chinese is good for Ukrainian is death and vice versa. Creators of Ukrainian symbols was convinced that blue and yellow colours symbolize golden wheat and blue sky above it. Who is that Mao that we have to listen to her seriously. Unfortunately it looks like Chinese artist was right. At least the period of Ukrainian independence verify what Mao warned us. Now it works against us. By the way, the Ukrainan revolution of 1917 in Kyiv and ukrainization of tsarist army during the World War First took place under yellow and blue colours but not opposite. And such a colour combination was offered by the head of the of the Central Council Of Ukraine Mykhailo Hrushevky as the flag of Ukrainian People's Republic. Why later leaders Pavlo Skoropasky and Symon Petliura turned the flag over is unknown. Maybe it was made just not to be like Polish - they have lighter stripe above on the national flag. Of course we can apprehend these things like mysticism or superstitions. When everything goes wrong we used to believe in things like that.

I hope there will be more documentary films like that.
