So everyone reading this journal of mine has probably tired themselves out by listening tome rant about my future employment opportunities. Well perhaps I should no longer rant, huh. Here is where I stand:
Chickasha, OK:
a six week stage managing a world premier production of a play with music and dance (though not really a musical I am told). My contract states I have first right of refusal to stage manager any further production of the show beyond these first six weeks.
Corinth, MS:
I am one of very few finalists for the job of Artistic Director of Corinth Theatre-Arts. CT-A is a smal community theatre (8 show season, 2 staff, About 100K-125K annual operating budget) in a relatively small northwestern MS town. I have an interview on Monday the 19th where in addition I have been asked to stay around that evening and run the auditions for INTO THE WOODS, Jr which would most probably be the the first show I would direct there. To me this says, the job is mine to lose.
Now I have been up front with both venues about the existence of the other. Chickasha, OK (via Rex and Sherry) are ok with me taking a full time job, knowing the importance and prioritized necessity of such job over a temporary gig like they have offered (of course this would mean breaking a contract). The Corinth, MS current AD also knows (but may have forgot to mention to the board) that I couldn't start work (due to the OK job) until AUgust 17. INTO THE WOODS, Jr open August 6th. It would appear impossible to do both. Now I have been trying to figure out how the hell I am going to deal with this when BOOM, I get this:
Gaithersburg, MD (sorta) and et al:
An Asst Prod. Mgr with NETWorks Touring Company (current tours include RENT, LITTLE WOMEN with Maureen McGovern, and ANNIE; upcoming tours include LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, HAIRSPRAY, THE PRODUCERS, and SWEET CHARITY with Molly Ringwald) sent me an email stating that she had several production postitions that she would like to talk to me about if I were still interested and/or looking for work.
Touring has been a dream of mine from long back. But I havent sent a resume out to NETWorks since like 3-4 years ago (probably right after I lost my job at CTC). If it is a production/Management job, then this will be something I will need to seriously consider (lets say medical insurance, salary plus per diem with no need for car, car insurance, or rent payment, and the opportunity to travel).
So I want the OK thing because I love working for Rex and Sherry. I want the COrinth thing because it is quite honestly the next step on my ladder to running my own theatre, I want the tour because the benefits are where it is at (and plue rehearsal would begin in New York and thus I could hang in NYC for a bit and see if that's what I would want). THis is a good but perplexing problem as things begin to wind their little rears down here in Oxford.
