I THINK IT WOULD BE PERTINENT for me to write out exactly what Mimiru's state within camp is, in regards to being both a game character and a character playing a game. So this is, essentially, a list of what game functions she can still access or be subject to, and what game functions she ISN'T subject to. Most of these are drawn from canon instances, usually with Tsukasa from .hack//SIGN as a reference, since I'm basing a lot of her situation off of his.
1. Physical presence in camp
Basically, Mimiru's mind is inhabiting her game avatar. Her consciousness is within it, and it's a fully functional human body; it's just not her real one. Tsukasa had the same happen to him, and he could use his real senses within the game: sight, hearing, touch, and I'm assuming taste and smell also worked for him. So I guess the only strange thing about Mimiru's body is that it was pretty much constructed out of NOWHERE purely so she could exist at camp in this form. I don't know if anyone at camp can sense the "age" of a body, but if they can, then her physical body is only as old as she's been at camp. Right now, that's less than a week.
She is NOT in front of a terminal, and she is NOT wearing an FMD/headset. She'll realise this eventually, and assume that she's in a coma in the "real world", since this happens in canon.
2. Email and communication
Mimiru can't access the BBS for The World, since you have to be logged out of the game to do this. She can, however, still get emails via her game character. Tsukasa could recieve and respond to emails while he was stuck in The World, so I'm applying the same principle here. I'm assuming she can access emails through her game menu, which I'll cover next.
3. Game menu screen and game commands
This is a bit trickier. I'm playing Mimiru as being able to SEE her game menu when she wants to. Since she's no longer holding a game controller, the way she does this is to mentally bring it up. Don't ask me how that works, because honestly, I don't know. XD. It's possible that she might use her hands to physically make the motions of pressing the right button to see her menu, and this translates so that she sees it visually in her mind. No one else can see her menu. Only she can. What she can access through her game menu is email, equipment, character stats, party members and action commands.
On action commands... this doesn't apply to her simply whacking things with her sword. The action commands she can use relate to magic, healing magic and skills. Tsukasa could still access his magic within the game, so I'm working on the same principle. Also, since Mimiru doesn't actually use any of a Heavy Blade's other skills in the anime, I'm going to take her skills and magic from BlackRose, the Heavy Blade from the .hack games. Quick list of skills/magic she can use, according to GameFAQs list of Heavy Blade skills:
- Repth (healing, 150hp)
- Calamity (Lvl: 1, Target: Unit, SP: 10, Element: None)
- Hayabusa (Lvl: 1, Target: Area, SP: 10, Element: None)
- Cross Slash (Lvl: 1, Target: Unit, SP: 10, Element: None)
- Crack Beat (Lvl: 1, Target: Area, SP: 10, Element: None)
- Revolver (Lvl: 1, Target: Area, SP: 10, Element: None)
- Vak Crack (Lvl: 2, Target: Area, SP: 30, Element: Fire)
- Vak Revolver (Lvl: 2, Target: Area, SP: 30, Element: Fire)
- Ani Slash (Lvl: 2, Target: Unit, SP: 30, Element: Dark)
- Ani Revolver (Lvl: 2, Target: Area, SP: 30, Element: Dark)
- Death Bringer (Lvl: 1, Target: Unit, SP: 10, Element: None)
- Gan Smash (Lvl: 2, Target: Unit, SP: 30, Element: Earth)
- Gan Drive (Lvl: 2, Target: Unit, SP: 30, Element: Earth)
- Vak Smash (Lvl: 2, Target: Unit, SP: 30, Element: Fire)
- Vak Drive (Lvl: 2, Target: Unit, SP: 30, Element: Fire)
- Juk Smash (Lvl: 2, Target: Unit, SP: 30, Element: Wood)
- Juk Drive (Lvl: 2, Target: Unit, SP: 30, Element: Wood)
- Rairaku (Lvl: 2, Target: Unit, SP: 30, Element: Thunder)
HOWEVER, it's really unlikely that I'll use anything but the first three. I also skipped magical attacks since Heavy Blades aren't good at those and I can't be bothered going to my game to find out which ones they know.
4. Party options
Mimiru can't use the party fuction like she can normally. I haven't decided yet whether she can have someone join her party, but if she can, then I'll most likely leave out the extraneous things, like private conversation functions, since locks work that way anyway.
5. Viewing other characters
So in the game, you see other characters' names floating over their heads. Since Kyon pointed this out, I thought I'd mention that no, she can't see your characters' LJ username over their head. That'd be a pain, and potentially messy with some characters, like Ahiru, who have secret identities.
6. Inventory and equipment
It's a game world - they have potions and scrolls and ten different swords. This is canon. Mimiru's inventory works like hammer space. If she decides to pull out a potion, it will literally come out of thin air. I'm assuming she'd have all the basics in her inventory: healing potions, SP potions, resurrects, status cures, and some magic scrolls. Like I said with magic attacks, I probably won't use magic scrolls a whole lot, but she DOES have some. Magic scrolls follow elemental things, like fire, water, earth, forest, lightning and darkness. She could pull any one of these, though she's not likely to. Canonically, her sword is the lowest level one a Heavy Blade can get, just judging by appearance... which is stupid, since she's obviously been playing for a while and would have upgraded her equipment by now. NOT VITALLY IMPORTANT THOUGH.
7. Levelling up
K, she can still level up. She gets experience points for whacking zombies. Not many, but she gets some. Iiiii'm gonna say she's at level 40 or 50, in game terms, because that's a nice middle ground and it doesn't make her some stupidly godmode-y level 99 character. Which she isn't; that's probably more what Sora and Crim are, canonically.
8. Warping, Sprite Ocarinas, and the Chaos Gate
Short answer, no. Since there's no Chaos Gate at camp, she can neither warp back to it or use it to gate to other fields or servers. In the same way, she can't use her Sprite Ocarinas to return to the start of a "field" (for instance, she can't use it to return to the start of the Cave of Despair). These things will not work for her; not at the moment. Keywords obviously don't work, since there's no Gate to use them at. Camp Fuck You Die is effectively like the Cyber Slum field, in that she was brought there through an outside agency and can only leave if it allower her to (rather like Helba's hacking to create Helba Gates).
I think that's all I need to cover. But if you wanna ask something about it, shoot.
