002 ❀ VIDEO

[When the video starts, it's-- well, still not all that focused. And also kind of dark. The voice might be familiar to anyone watching, though, and some pointed ears can be made out if someone looked at the video close enough.]... I'm not sure if this is working correctly yet, but it's too dark for me to make sure. Is anyone able to hear me? It's ( Read more... )

[He stares at this broadcast for a while.]

... Wow. That's some pretty bad luck.

Is it a cupboard in your apartment? I mean... it might help if we knew where you actually were.

No, it's a cupboard in a tavern I found. I was hoping I might find one of my friends, but I didn't have a lot of luck there.

You might be able to find your way here if you follow the twine.

Apparently.

-- Twine? [What the heck does twine have to do with this? Even Asch's sense of direction isn't this bad.]

[But twine is the most important thing ever Luke.]

A friend gave it to me because I kept getting lost in the city I came from. It drove the shopkeepers crazy, but it helped a lot.

[Good lord this chick needs help.] Right. I'll get looking. [He doesn't have anything better to do.]

So what's your name? I'm Luke.

Thank you. I really appreciate it.

My name is Merrill-- I probably should've introduced myself first before asking for help. I'm sorry, I'm still not all that good at conversations with humans.

You can thank me if I find you. [He grabs a flashlight and straps his sword behind his back, then goes out into the darkness.] Anyway, you were scared, right? It's fine.

You're not used to talking to humans? [He sounds curious, not judgmental.]

Not really. There aren't any giant spiders or monsters that want to kill me in here. I think I'll be fine until I can get out.

[A pause, and then she continues.]

Well, I suppose I'm better than I used to be thanks to living in Kirkwall. I grew up with the Dalish, so we didn't meet humans all that often.

If that's what you're afraid of, don't ever go into the Underground. At least not by yourself. Eegh.

[At least he's used to fighting monsters, too.]

What are the Delish?

[...]

Dalish. Sorry. People are not delicious.

I'm not afraid of them, either. Not having those is something good about where I'm at now, though.

[His mispronunciation and the comment about people not being delicious gets a bit of a laugh from her.]

The Dalish are elves. Well, the elves that don't live in the city. We travel around a lot.

True. It's nice to be able to walk around without getting attacked by angry lizards the size of wagons.

[He blushes a little.]

Oh. We don't have elves where I'm from. Sometimes they pop up in fairy tales... All I know is that they have cloaks and pointy ears. [SHRUG.]

I have a cloak and pointy ears, so I suppose your fairy tales aren't so far off.

Really? That's-- actually pretty cool.

It is? Well-- that's good to know, then. I would rather have something be cool instead of something else.

[NOT REALLY GETTING THE RIGHT DEFINITION OF COOL.]
