I found a lovely apartment last week, great location for me, large and with a lot of small details I loved, but I finally came to the realization it's just too expensive. Searching for a place to live in Japan is certainly a lot more difficult then the US. Price varies a LOT by location in the city, nearness to a station and even which lines you are close to. Some lines are preferred and others to be avoided based on where you work. It's made a little more difficult for me in that I pay my own travel expenses, normally in Japan the company will pay it for you, so that means I need to try and avoid changing rail companies in my commute as that will practically double the price you pay. (or tripe if you use three different companies etc) There is a lot to learn that people don't really tell, or in the case of paying for rail passes, most employees don't deal with it at all. Based on all this I've narrowed down my list of areas I want to live in more. Time to apply to look at a few more I found online that look interesting.
