Meme: The year in review

Dec 31, 2010 20:26

Meme from all over, but I copied/pasted from raedbard .

What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?
A bunch of super-sekrit work things, that would identify me instantly. (Well, not 'was Prime Minister' instantly. But instantly-ish to a handful of people.) In fandom terms, wrote some Supernatural fic.

Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any last year, and I probably won't this year. It's helpful to some people, but I find the whole new year thing a bit random. The rhythms of my life run more on financial years than calendar years.

Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes.

Did anyone close to you die?
No.

What countries did you visit?
US, France, Italy, Norway, all of the other UK countries, Ireland.

Describe your birthday
It was midweek, so I spent it hanging out with my husband. We went for a wander around our local area, ate lunch in a restaurant that we've been going to since we were undergrads together, and drank far too much fizz given that we both had work the next day.

What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
More time to write fic. Although I do love the other things I do, and it's not obvious what I would/could give up to get that.

What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Nothing, in particular. It's been a very good year, but no single day has particularly stood out.

What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Something super-sekrit.

What was your biggest failure?
Hmm, hard to say. Nothing has gone terribly awry. In fandom terms, spending far too many precious fandom moments feeling grumpy at wank.

Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope.

Did you have to go to hospital?
Nope.

Whose behavior merited celebration?
My husband, who is my favourite person in the world, has been particularly awesome this year. I've also had lovely times with friends this year. My colleagues, who are much cleverer and nicer than anybody really deserves.

Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Hello, new Government. Also: (the minority of) friends who have babies and cannot conceal the fact that you are now of no interest at all compared with their child. Of course people love their children more than everyone else, but it's good manners not to cancel every social engagement one makes with literally minutes to go.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?
In fannish terms: Yuletide. Also: Supernatural season 5 coming out on DVD, because I'd watched the rest of the show earlier in the year.

Which song[s] will always remind you of 2010?
'This is how I disappear' - My Chemical Romance. It doesn't mean anything to me in particular, but it seemed omnipresent in the shuffle when I was writing fic.

Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier. It's been a very good year.
ii. thinner or fatter? A tiny bit thinner.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer.

What do you wish you'd done more of?
Writing.

What do you wish you'd done less of?
Reading fandomsecrets  and getting irritated by the stupidity and meanness on display.

Did you fall in love in 2010?
I stayed in love.

What was your favorite TV program?
Of the new things I watched: Supernatural and Friday Night Lights.

Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope, although I'm feeling distinctly tepid about Nick Clegg (for having no values) and Vince Cable (for not living up to his values).

What was the best book you read?
The Room by Emma Donoghue.

What did you want and get?
Hmm, a Kindle?

What did you want and not get?
Nothing. Is that ridiculous?

Favorite film of this year?
The Social Network. Despite all of its flaws.

How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Classic. Also, tweed.

What kept you sane?
The husband.

Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I try to find out as little as possible about real people. I have a ridiculous crush on Dean Winchester, but would probably find him boorish in real life. (If he, you know, existed.)

What political issue stirred you the most?
Violence against women. Followed closely by the rest of the ways we know that women still aren't equal: economic inequality, lack of political representation, objectification in an increasingly industrialised way.

Who do you miss?
Nobody. Although I miss having almost daily contact with my undergrad pals, who are now phone / email / occasional weekend buddies.

Who was the best new person you met?
Someone super-sekrit. A work person.

Are you happy to see 2010 go?
Ambivalent. It's been a pretty good year.

Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Pretty good year". Thanks, Tori.
