It's the ficciest time of the year

I've been away for the holidays, and have barely scratched the surface of Yuletide, but have a few recs in the fandoms I have read that I wanted to post before the reveal:

Sports Night

Firstly, I got two gorgeous Sports Night fics that feature Dan Rydell's pain front and centre, in Holiday Spirit (1,500 words, no warnings) and Pinch Hitter (1,300 ( Read more... )

There were a lot of things that I liked about Studio 60. I loved 'Nevada Day', which I think was the show at its finest. I love Harriet, and her relationship with Matt. I love Tom and Simon, and all the sparkly banter. I loved the meta-ness of it all, and the Allison Janney episode, and her talking about Christine Lahti when Christine Lahti was in it, and The West Wing chat.

Two things I hated, which slightly besmirched the whole thing:

1. Danny and Jordan's relationship. He stalked her, embarrassing her with people she has a professional relationship, and then *takes control of her medical treatment* when she is conscious and able to do so herself. He is rewarded for this, not by a Mulberry tote in the head, but by her giving her child his name.

2. Jordan apologising to Hallie. (This thing was much smaller.) In real life, she would have crushed her like a bug. Jordan may have been snotty and condescending, but Hallie committed the professional equivalent of knifing her in the face. Jordan's your BOSS, crazy diamond.

(For reasons which I cannot reveal, as they will spoil the plot, the fic *might* work for you even if you don't dig Danny/Matt slash. Or not.)

I...loved Danny and Jordan. Heh. To be fair, I think most people more or less stalk people they find themselves in love with at first. And, yeah, he embarrassed her and unknowingly and unintentionally compromised her, professionally. But he was told about it, and stopped. As to the medical treatment, there seemed to be some instances when she was not really able to take care of her medical treatment herself--once the surgery starts; she's never fully conscious or aware, according to the doctor, until we see her again. And, I don't know, I never saw Danny's behavior (the bad form with the whole "references" thing aside) as damaging, and struck me as pretty real in terms of the crazy things a lot of people do (and not unhealthily) when they fall in love. *shrug* I never found it offensive or bothersome in any kind of major way. But I know a lot of people don't like their whole...thing. The only complaint I really have about it is that I wish there had been more time for it, since I thought it was a bit rushed.

Totally on board with everything else you said, though. ;) Great thoughts, as always. You always have such well-thought-out things to say.
