Written for the
Kissing Battle Redux, for a request by
katmillia. She asked for Auron/Rikku and I complied. I don't usually write the pairing, but she liked it, so I must've done something right! ^^
Takes place in FFX (obviously) during the Sanubia Desert. But there are no spoilers.
It was more than a little embarrassing, Auron thought to himself. He was, physically, the strongest of their group. He was also the oldest and most experienced. This wound should not have happened. It wouldn't have been so bad, except that he was not used to having his wounds healed the old-fashioned way.
After, all, with Yuna god-knows-where and no one else having any knowledge of White Magic (at least, none that healed) and having run out of Potions, they were stuck with Rikku's clumsy bandaging in between battles. She was the best of them at it, of course, but that didn't mean she was actually any good.
He'd tried to insist that he'd be fine, it was only a scrape, but Rikku had dug her heels in and refused to take another step until Auron let her take care of it as best she could. Auron had at last agreed, telling the others to gone on ahead.
It hurt, actually, quite a bit more than the infliction of the wound. Rikku was pouring some kind of fizzy liquid over it that burned like a fire spell, and when she started wrapping the bandages, she wrapped them a little bit too tight - not enough to cut off his circulation, but the pressure made the wound ache.
"There," she said when she'd finished. She tied the bandage off with a flourish and beamed as though she expected applause.
"Thank you," Auron said grudgingly, because, okay, it probably had been a good idea to get the cut covered up before more sand got in it. "Can we move on, now?"
Rikku sighed and shook her head. "Meanie. Does it hurt a lot?"
Auron shrugged with one shoulder and avoided eye contact which, though she hadn't known him all that long, even Rikku knew meant yes, but I'm trying to hide it.
"Poor thing," she said, and before he knew it, she'd leaned up and kissed him on the lips.
Auron blinked at her, and Rikku wanted to laugh at how very unlike him that expression was.
"Didn't you mother ever kiss your boo-boos?" she asked, smiling.
"I think the intent of that saying was to kiss the actual wound," Auron said stiffly, and hoped that he was imagining the suddenly husky tone to his voice.
Rikku's grin widened. "Oh, really? Sorry."
Needless to say, she didn't look sorry one bit.
