The weather in Belfast has been like a hurricane tonight, when I started my journal this time last year it was alot milder, a mirror image of the life. My live journal expires tommorrow so this is my last possible entry. I'm not convinced many read this and I'm a believer in the air of mystery especially around a rock band such as the Poets.
A year ago we didn't exsist. A mere concept in my mind for several months. Now we're rocking, tearing the place up and loving every minute of it. My lack of sleep I put down to the excitement we have at the minute. The band has went through a massive year of growth, transition and adaptation. It's been tough but would it be as rewarding if it were easy? It's a funny thing how two songs, a bit of airplay and a phone call from Mr Tom Dunne gave us a bit of belief. Again the support we have received globally from the U.S and Colombia to Japan and Austrialia has been immense...keep it coming! Not everyone believes in us though, thats cool...no sweet without the sour.
Next week we will officially sign with London management, we have been through lengthy negiotiations but finally were ready for phase 2, funny we did our first poets gig on 2nd June 2005 so were not even one year old.
In this brief time we have achieved the following accolades: Rising artist of the week (Today Fm), Xfm unsigned winners, Global airplay, songs used on channel 4 programmes and O'Neill sports ad campaigns, invited to do showcase parties at SXSW, supported the Chemical Brothers, Sonic Youth, Nine Black Alps, The Walls and The Rev's and so much more....on top of this we have on average done over a show a week since we started.....all this and we're still unsigned.
Yet the hype is increasing and no more so than in London as we get more and more people to our shows.
We are writing so much new material at the minute. It's overwhelming but hopefully a positive sign of things to come. We will have a few surprises to the show and tracks in the future.
Hopefully everyone who reads this will continue to support us this year and have as much fun at our shows as we do.
Cheers to graham, James and Aishling and miss likle for their photos all year. Especially Graham who has more or less shadowed us up and down the country as well as to London. To Neal Calderwood at Manor Park for his excellent production in our demo tracks and finally the crew, Big D (AKA: Rocksteady), Mad Tommy, Big Bird (AKA: Be-Bop) and Dode!
Step aside shoe-gazers - Rock is not dead !
