Just a quick morning ramble...

Okay, so. I highly, highly doubt there will be an update today, because I have two midterms tomorrow and I really need to study. I studied on the weekend, but I don't think the information really stuck. Bear with me--high school was way too easy. I never learned how to study--I never had to! And then last year was too general for me to really care all that much, but if I want a shot at a decent major, I have to keep my grades up in order to get first pick of classes for next year.

ANYWAY. Updates. I don't even have the pictures required to post one just yet. The next update--likely tomorrow, possibly Wednesday--will be IFV Chapter Sixty, which will be the last chapter before... yep, another time jump. This will either be the last one or the second last; haven't quite decided whether I want to do one forty-chapter segment or two twenty-chapter segments (although at least I know I want to round out the whole story at a hundred chapters).

Speaking of numbers, only twenty more updates until Naroni 300!

And speaking of Naroni, Thursday is its second birthday. Not sure if I'm going to do any sort of extras thing this year. Maybe I'll compile a song list or something, I don't know--something easy, since it kind of falls at a stressful time for me.

Uh, what else... oh. Offline work.

Mainly working on two projects (though I do have more :S). First one is a fantasy. I'm sick of elves and vampires and all that--no offense to any of you who use those, because if I'm reading your work, then that means that you've at least put your own original spin on them--but they're kind of a literary cliche these days among published works, and I really have no desire to use them. So, I'm making up a bunch of original creatures, which is simultaneously fun and a pain in the ass, especially since they need languages too. Also, MAGIC. Debated not putting it in, but... hey, it wouldn't be fantasy without magic. So, I'm making magic more interesting by making it boring; yes, you heard right. I am working out the PHYSICS of magic.

The other project is a social commentary that's meant as a counter-attack on extreme reactionary movements such as this recent "Tea Party" bullshit in the States (apparently one candidate wants to eliminate the public school system, which is worthy of a rant on its own). It's actually a second draft (although I technically never finished the first--I knew where it was going, but I made a couple critical errors near the beginning and it made the most sense to start over). I posted the first chapter to the critique section on VSS, but it was way too expository--I didn't like it myself, and if the view/reply ratio is any indication, most people stopped reading it after a while. It was too expository, but for a few reasons--namely the choice of narrators--I couldn't really make the chapter any less so without altering the story as a whole.

So, what I'm doing is making the second chapter the new first chapter. I'm not sure if I'll post it. If I do, it will be at the critique section in VSS again, just because it's a small, friendly sort of forum and the critique section is viewable to members only. My offline work is offline for a reason. I don't know if anything write will ever be published, but it seems to me that as soon as something hits the internet, it becomes unpublishable by nature--not because of the quality, but because it could potentially pave way to a huge legal shitstorm. Yes, over-the-top bleak thinking, but you know what I mean.

ANYWAY, I should run off to class now. Excuse the rant--I'm in a very weird mood today.

personal crap, ramblings
