“Okay, time for bed,” Junsu announced but no one moved from their spot in the living room.
It had been at least an hour since they had gotten home from Everland's Horror Maze and once they had entered the room, none of them had moved. Being a group of six tough looking, muscular boys, their courage was tested and none of them passed. Junho's throat felt raw, Junsu's bottom hurt from falling, Wooyoung had the jitters, Nichkhun kept his hood on, Taecyeon refrained from opening his mouth and Chansung was still slightly whimpering. Their hearts were still racing and they all jumped when the refrigerator buzzed to life.
Taecyeon suddenly bolted off the couch and turned on all the nearest lights. “I guess we're all sleeping here. We need blankets,” he said, coming back into the room. “Someone come with me.”
The group stayed silent for a moment, making the tall boy clear his throat in anger. “I'll come with you hyung,” Wooyoung said, getting off the couch and pulling out of Nichkhun's warm embrace.
As the other boys left to find blankets, the rest of the members cleared a space for them all to sleep in. Junho and Junsu looked at one another, neither of them wanting to sleep on the ends.
“Rock paper scissors?” Junho asked.
“Let's wait until Taecyeon comes back.”
Nichkhun had already reserved a spot on the couch for him and Wooyoung so the other four members had to fight for a position on the floor.
Wooyoung clung closely to Taecyeon, the older boy's height making him feel well protected. The tall boy stopped at the edge where darkness met the end of the light. He swallowed before looking down at Wooyoung, the smaller boy gripping his arm tightly and nodding. The two boys thrust themselves into the dark, dashing towards the light switch but missed it completely as Taecyeon tripped and fell to the floor.
“Hyung!” Wooyoung called out, not being able to see ahead of himself. He trampled to the floor when his limbs got caught between something and he heard a low grunt.
“Woo-ah, you stepped on my leg.”
“Sorry hyung,” the small boy sat up, pulling Taecyeon with him. The two boys got to their feet, sliding their hands up the wall until one of them found the light switch. Flicking it on, their narrowed their eyes as the light flashed and blinded them for a moment.
“Come on, this is taking too long...” Taecyeon looped his arm around the small boy's waist and he dragged the both of them down the lit hallway. He stopped at the closet door, opening it and releasing a loud holler as mountain of blankets crashed on top them.
The four boys in the living room all stopped what they were doing, even Chansung who was wrestling Nichkhun for the spot on the couch.
“Did you hear that?” Junho's heart raced as fear set in.
“It sounded like Taecyeon,” Junsu let out a shuddered breath.
A high-pitched noise entered Chansung's ears from the eerie silence that emitted from the hallway upstairs. “Do you think they're alright?” he whispered, feeling that his normally loud voice would bring something unfortunate upon them.
“I don't know, why don't you go check,” Nichkhun said, jumping back on to the couch to guard his spot.
“H-hyung?” the maknae yelled, not moving from his place. Fear quickened the beats of his heart and he could feel it pounding against his ribs. “Damn it hyung, answer me.” His mind fell out of reality as he began to wonder if something lurking upstairs had caught Taecyeon. Had it grabbed Wooyoung too?
“I don't understand why you guys can't fold things nice and neat,” came Taecyeon's voice as he appeared from behind the wall. He was carrying thick blankets that obscured his vision to see in front of him.
“Sorry hyung...” Wooyoung was carrying pillows as he followed the tall boy down the stairs carefully.
“What happened?” Junsu asked, catching the pillow that was tossed to him.
“A whole shitload of blankets came at me when I opened the door. I swear you guys just shoved them in the closet and closed the door, hoping they'd rearrange themselves in a nice neat order...”
Junho looked down, feeling guilty before he was pushed against the floor when heavy blankets landed on top of him. He pulled himself out from under them as he helped Chansung set them up.
After a relentless forty games of rock, paper, scissors, their sleeping arrangements were settled, despite the disagreement between the two tallest boys. Chansung and Taecyeon were placed at the ends and Junho and Junsu in the middle, feeling the safest. The maknae grumbled as he got under the blankets before pulling himself close to Junho. Taecyeon stood up, about to turn off the light when it went off on it's own. Screams erupted from the two smaller boys on the floor as Taecyeon quickly scrambled to turn on the nearest light.
“It must have blew,” the tall boy said, trying to assure both the boys and himself. “I'll leave the kitchen light on.”
He quickly made his way to the pile of blankets, diving under them and pulling Junsu close to him. The older boy didn't mind and he rolled over to face Taecyeon. He wrapped his arms around his waist protectively and the other boy did the same.
The room was quiet, despite none of the boys being tired. Junho was on his stomach, his eyes wide open as he stared at the spot of the floor illuminated by the moonlight peeking through the curtains. They had always meant to get a thicker set of curtains but now he was thankful that they hadn't.
Minutes ticked on and Junho felt the maknae breathe in deeply. The arm around his back shifted slightly, pulling on his hip, “What's the matter?” Chansung asked, noticing that the small boy had no intentions of sleeping.
“I don't want them to show that video of me...”
“Why not?”
“I screamed all the way through it... At the very end,” Junho shuddered, “I sounded like a girl.” He closed his eyes, the sound of his own girlish scream ringing through his ears.
“We were all scared Junho... I'm pretty sure we were all screaming.”
“I jumped at everything,” Wooyoung said, bringing himself into the conversation.
“Everything freaked me out,” Nichkhun said softly, feeling regretful.
Junsu groaned, “My tailbone hurts.”
Junho gnawed on his lip, finding that everyone else had problems, not just himself. As much as he felt like a wimp for his high-pitched screams, he didn't feel so bad with everyone else complaining as well. “We all kind of embarrassed ourselves, didn't we?”
The soft groans of agreement was all Junho heard before the room was silent again. He tensed when something slid across the blanket and gripped his arm. Junho turned his head, seeing Junsu's eyes glistening from the moonlight. The older boy was stroking his arm and Junho moved to grip the other boy's fingers, intertwining them. It brought a smile upon his lips as he decided to close his eyes and try to get some sleep.
Nichkhun jolted away hours later, feeling the smaller boy in his arms hanging off the couch. He pulled Wooyoung back, lifting his limps off the floor and holding them against his body. The younger boy shuffled, bumping his butt against Nichkhun's thighs in attempt to stay on the couch. He wrapped his arms around Wooyoung, holding him close as he fell back asleep when the small boy finally stopped moving.
Junsu groaned, waking up uncomfortably as the air around him felt too warm. He opened his eyes only to be greeted by darkness. The arms around him tightened and Junsu let out a yelp. He tried to push away from Taecyeon but the tall boy was holding on too much. “T-Taecyeon... Yah!” Junsu moved his fingers, pinching whatever skin they could reach.
The tall boy jolted before opening his eyes, “Ow, that hurt.”
“Let me go, I can't breathe.”
Taecyeon released the small boy, looking down as he watched Junsu stretch out and gasp for air. “Sorry... I was having a bad dream.”
“It's fine...”
Junsu rolled onto his side, facing away from the younger boy and snuggling into the pillow. He tensed as he felt Taecyeon carefully slide his hand around his waist. He grabbed the tall boy's hand and pulled it up to his face to snuggle with it. Junsu felt the younger boy smile against his shoulder as he pressed again it.
Junho blinked slowly, his eyes opening, still feeling thick from sleep. His vision cleared as he spotted the patch of skin which was Chansung's neck. He smiled, shuffling himself closer and the maknae tightened his arm around his waist. Junho was about to go back to sleep when something shifted at his feet. Opening his eyes again, he looked at the edge of the blanket before following up legs. Junho gasped, scrambling away from Chansung, the tall boy groaning and rubbing his eyes.
The small boy's scream rang out through the house, waking the other members and their eyes followed to what he seemed to be looking at. They all piled into one another, yelling and screaming at the thief-like person standing before them.
“What the hell is wrong with you guys?!” the masked man asked, pulling off his hood and down the scarf around his face.
“Minjae hyung! Why are you dressed like that?!” Nichkhun shouted, his grip still tight on Junsu.
“It's freezing outside! I almost needed a winter jacket but this scarf and hoodie were fine.”
The boys fell back on the floor, panting and sighing in relief as they tried to calm their hearts.
“I guess we really a bunch of chickens,” Wooyoung smiled, feeling too humiliated to care.
