Taemin panted as he hit the wall, stopping to catch his breath. “Damn it Jinki, where are you?!” He sniffled as he slammed his feet against the pavement again.
The park was empty. Of course it was empty, it was late night.
“Jinki! Jinki!” Taemin called out, turning in circles as he searched the field. He ran off again, running into the city and up and down alleyways. He passed their meeting spot, still not finding the older boy.
He pulled his phone, dialing Jinki's number.
“This phone is not in service... ”
“Damn it!” Taemin raised his arm, about to throw his phone when it rang. “Hello?! Jinki?!”
“No, it's Minho! Is everything okay? Your mom just called asking if hyung was here.”
“He's missing! Jinki is missing!”
“What?!” Minho's voice grew distant but Taemin could still hear what the older boy was saying. “Changmin we have to go find hyung! Taemin!”
“I'm still here!”
“I'll call Jonghyun and Key and we'll meet you at the school!”
“Okay!” Taemin hung up, heading towards the school. He started to pick up pace when he suddenly bumped into someone and fell backwards.
“Well well, what do we have here?”
“I don't have time for you shit Shin.”
“Like you ever do. Where's your honey, Taeminnie? Isn't it kind of late for you to running around by yourself. It's dangerous out here.” Shin said, pulling Taemin to his feet and pulling him close.
“You're the only danger here.” The small boy hissed.
“Mm, probably.” Shin smirked.
Taemin pulled his phone from his pocket, dialing 911. “If you don't let me go right now, I'll call the cops.”
“So feisty... Maybe I just want to talk.”
“You don't talk Shin, you never do. You just want to fuck.”
The tall boy nodded his head. “You're right about that. I've changed my mind.” He said, pushing Taemin to the wall.
“I told you I don't have time for this!” Taemin screamed, smashing his phone against Shin's face and knocking the tall boy away.
Taemin took off, not looking back.
“Taemin!” Minho shouted as the youngest boy approached the schoolyard.
Taemin fell to his knees as he finally stopped running for his life.
“Taemin!” Key knelt next to the smaller boy.
“He's gone hyung!”
“It's okay! We'll find him!” The older boy patted Taemin on the shoulder, causing him to look up. Four of his friends stood around him.
“We'll find him.” Changmin said, pulling Taemin to his feet. The small boy stumbled a bit, falling into the older boy.
“Don't you worry Taemin. We'll find hyung.” Minho said, stroking his cheek.
“We know his hiding spots.” Jonghyun said. “We've been friends for a long time.”
“Let's hope we find him in one of those spots.” Key said.
“I've already checked the spots where we'd usually hung out.” Taemin explained.
“I'll make you a list of places to check Taemin. Jonghyun, you go with Key and I'll go with Changmin. We know a few other places so let's check there then meet back here.”
The group of boys all nodded before separating again. Taemin checked the points on his phone, knowing where all of them were. “Jinki, these are weird places...”
He received texts from the others, telling him that Jinki was not in the spot they checked. Taemin replied by telling them the same. He fell to the ground, dropping his phone and choking over his breath. “J-Jinki...”
His phone buzzed. Meet back at the school.
“I'm not giving up.” Taemin said into the receiver as he spoke to Minho.
“Taemin... He'll come back. Don't... Don't stay out.”
“Don't worry about me hyung...” Taemin chuckled. “I'm used to being out here.”
“Taemin...”
“Don't worry.” He said before he hung up. He clutched his phone tight, looking around.
The sky cracked overhead before drops started to hit Taemin.
“Shit. Of course.”
He buried his phone deep in his pocket, walking back into the city. “Jinki!” He cupped his hands over his mouth. “Jiiiinki! You moron!”
The sound of rain pounding the ground was the only thing that answered him back. He started to trip as the imperfections of the sidewalk stuck out. He landed on his hands and knees, cringing as he looked at his bloody hands. “Damn Jinki...” He started to cry. “How could you leave me? I need you...”
He pounded his fist into the ground before standing again and running. He ran back to the park, screaming at the top of his lungs against the rain. “Lee Jinki, when I find you I'm going to kill your stupid ass!”
Taemin choked as he swallowed, the rain washing away his tears and soaking him to the bone. His expensive uniform was now ruined but he didn't care. He peered through the field, spotting a figure move towards him. “Jinki!”
He started to run towards the figure, slowing his pace as he finally got close. His smile fell as he didn't recognize this person now standing in front of him.
“I'm sorry?” The male said.
“N-nothing. Sorry...” Taemin said bowing his head.
“Hey kid, shouldn't you be home?”
Taemin ignored the stranger, picking up his wet feet and leaving the park. “God damn it Jinki... This is twice...” He said, feeling tears sting his eyes again. “I don't cry...” He sniffled. “... For anyone.”
He pushed himself against the wall, burying his head in his arms. His phone buzzed in his pocket.
“Taemin, come home.”
“I'm not giving up on Jinki.”
“We've called the police... Please come home.”
“No... I'm not giving up.” Taemin said before dropping his phone. He pushed away from the wall, leaving the device of the ground.
“Jinki....”
“Jinki....”
“Don't leave me...” Taemin cried. “Why did you leave me? I'll never trust you again... I hate you Jinki... I hate you!”
He fell into the wall sobbing and holding his face. He let his feet lead him until he was standing at the edge of town, looking down a hill.
Taemin looked down at the sewer that poured out the dirty street water. He plopped down on the grass, looking out into the country. He sniffled, wiping his nose on his wet sleeve. The sewer suddenly coughed, startling Taemin.
He got up, slipping and falling as he approached the large, open tube. He grabbed onto the edge as he slid in the mud, his eyes growing wide as he peered inside the sewer.
It sniffled before looking out at him. “T-Taemin?”
“Jinki... What are you doing in there?”
“I-I...” The older boy's lip quivered from the cold, his eyes moving away from Taemin.
“Get out here.”
“But...”
“Get out here Jinki.”
Jinki swallowed before climbing out of the sewer. He climbed up the hill, hearing Taemin slip behind him and he reached out, grabbing the smaller boy's wrist. Time stilled for a moment as they stared at each other before Jinki pulled Taemin up the hill.
Taemin stood in front of the taller boy, pressing his hand against Jinki's face roughly. The motion didn't surprise the older boy, though he did touch his cheek. “Why did you run?”
Jinki moved his mouth, not forming words.
“I know she's not your mother.”
The taller boy winced, making Taemin regret his wording. “S-she's...”
“Still your mother.”
Jinki looked at the younger boy.
“Jinki, just because she isn't related to you by blood, doesn't make her your mother.”
The older boy swallowed. “I feel like I've been lied to. I'm going to question everything now.”
Taemin could understand that this wasn't an irrational way to think about this. “Are you going to stop trusting me? Because I'm not related to you by blood?”
Jinki jerked his head, looking at Taemin.
“Am I not your brother?”
The older boy shuttered. “No.”
Taemin blinked and Jinki fell to his knees. “I love you too much...” He started to quietly sob. “I can't love you like a brother.”
The smaller boy was happy, he really didn't care about that brotherly love when Jinki loved him more than anything in the world. To Taemin, that love meant more than family.
Taemin got to his knees, kneeling next to the older boy. “I love you too.”
Jinki raised his head, tears rolling down his cheeks with the rain. Taemin pulled the taller boy into his arms, hugging him tightly. “Don't leave me again Jinki... I couldn't handle it.”
“I'm sorry...” Jinki cried.
“Don't leave... I'll hate you... I won't look for you...”
The older boy squeezed Taemin, burying his face into the other boy's chest as he sobbed.

“I'm glad you came back home...” Mrs. Lee sniffled, standing at the door.
Jinki shuffled in the entry way, his wet shoes squeaking against the floor. Taemin squeezed his hand as they stood side by side.
Mrs. Lee stepped to him, pressing her hands against his cheeks and kissing his forehead. “Thank you so much.” She cried. “For bringing him home.”
Taemin bit his lip, trying to stop himself from crying and he nodded. Mrs. Lee stood in front of Jinki, keeping her distance.
“I realize you may not want to trust me anymore... And I'd understand if you didn't want me as a mother....”
Jinki raised his head, tears falling him his eyes. He inhaled sharply before reaching forward and hugging his mother. Taemin couldn't help it now as he let the tears fall freely. He was suddenly grabbed and pulled into the wet and teary hug.
“What's all this wailing now?” Mr. Lee asked, stepping into the room, stress visible on his face.
Mrs. Lee pulled her husband into the group and he wrapped his arms around his family. “We're going to stay together, right?”
“Forever...” Jinki sniffled.
“And ever.” Taemin said, smiling.
Mrs. Lee smiled, patting her youngest boy on the head.
After numerous people were called to let them know of Jinki's homecoming, the parents went to bed and Taemin and Jinki stayed up, sitting by the fireplace under blankets.
“I'm sorry Taemin... I selfishly left...”
The younger boy shook his head. “This is the first time you thought about yourself but... You went a bit overboard. Next time you decide to be selfish, don't run away... Okay?”
Jinki bit his lip and nodded. Taemin faced the fire again, shuffling under the blanket.
“Taemin?”
The smaller boy turned, watching Jinki lift his blanket. Taemin smiled, crawling away from his blanket and cuddling under the older boy's. He sat between Jinki's legs as the taller boy wrapped his arms around him.
“I love you Jinki.”
“I love you too.” The older boy smiled, placing a kiss on Taemin's lips.
