Exhaling: The Worldcon Reports - I

Aug 14, 2009 13:50

Unpacked, iPhone photos loaded up, edited, and flickr'd (except I'm having an upload issue with my Nikon right now-grr).  Jet lag and time change is still a little sideways, but mostly I'm good to write something at length about Worldcon.
So, here is my Montreal Worldcon Report, partie un:
First of all, I would have loved to spend more time in Montreal. I think all of us who came to Anticipation didn't want to leave right away.  We had to cut touring short, but we did get to see some interesting things.   One place I usually like to go, which is very strange for an acrophobic, is a tower or observation area if a city has one.  Montreal had the Olympic complex which had many places of interest including a tower.  So we ambled on Metro and went there Wednesday before con. Great views of the Olympic complex, and panoramic view of the city followed.  Then went next door to the Biodome.  Wow. Six diverse environments to explore. Animals running around in their own environment, and some were actually running around in the human space too.  I have some really great photos...of course they were taken with the Nikon, so Dave will have to free them on his 'puter and send them to me.  I've exhausted my download mojo.
Later that day we went to artist check in.  Art show had "oopsied" on forwarding me required information before the con, namely an artist number and control sheet.  We prepped a generic control sheet before coming up so we could have a catalog to work by sans the artist number.  With forty-five pieces to label and prep a bid sheet to, much gnashing of teeth and frustration ensued. Dave helped me out getting some of the bugs worked out on the bid sheets.  Reminder: next time I do an art show to insist on the artist number well ahead of time.  I had spent most of the evening and morning dealing with Art Show, so was late to actually display items.  Luckily I have a sensible, grounded, wonderful husband to help me iron out the frustration I was having with the bid sheets.  I wanted to showcase the Campbell Pin to bring awareness to the award itself, and to continue the effort of jaylake 's fundraising drive. This was something I didn't get to do last year at Denver as I wasn't in the art show (Dealers' Room), and the pins were quite literally "hot off the press" at that time. Hopefully this will help Jay in his continuing effort to raise awareness on the importance of the Campbell Award.  I ended up taking home a little more than half the pieces back, which was quite fine with me.  I had several quick sales, and some bidding wars that yielded some good sales too.  So, I may have a little bit o' money to help get me through the dreaded long march to my first paycheck September 30th.

Thank you to all who supported the art show, and saw something that you wanted to own from my designs.  I'm grateful to Joni B-D from the art show who took time to submit a very nice write up in the newsletter showcasing my Campbell Award Pin too.
