Uh oh... I feel a philisophical mini-rant coming on...
When you're in a relationship with someone whom you love (and this can be any relationship, though the one I am focusing on right now is romantic), then you will willingly change yourself to better mesh with his or her personality. This shouldn't be that much of a stretch of the imagination if you are of the belief that every event in your life changes you in some manner, and that the sum of the changes that past events have wrought are what compose your present personality.
Some of these changes will be consciously made, such as no longer tickling people or giving them friendly punches on the arm, while some will be subconscious, such as adapting your partner's mannerisms or liking the same type of music that he or she likes. These changes don't necessarily make you more similar, though they often make you more compatible.
So, in conclusion, if you are unwilling to change for a partner whom you love, you are (warning, sweeping statements ahead based upon the reasoning in the previous two paragraphs) a.) Ignorant of what is going to happen purely through your interaction and b.) Undeserving of the affection of someone who is willing to change for you.
Yes, I believe that was provocative enough. Okay, proceed to heat up the flamethrowers.
