Thoughts

After donating blood today, I laugh at all the times in movies where someone gets shot and is just like, w/e. getting shot=down and out

I think that military service should be mandatory. I've been thinking about this a bit in the past few weeks, and I think that everyone should serve for two years after high school, and then be a reservist until age 40 or so. Odd, I know, but bring it up in conversation if you want to hear more depth.

Also, advice that has been in my head since the tech shootings: If faced with a life threatening situation, especially one with guns, you should follow this progression:
1. Stop them from getting in range, or in line of sight of you. If they can't shoot you, you win.
2. If option one does not work, run away. Hitting a moving target is very difficult, especially at more than 7 yards, and especially when it is something that will react. MOVE!
3. If you can not run away, and you can not stop them from getting to you, then kill them. This is much more important in a group situation, but remains true when not. If you can throw something at the shooter and then rush them, then even a small group of people can take them down. Attempting to shield yourself with anything in the room will not work, but if everyone moves to attack, then the chances are that the shooter will be subdued. One person who leads a rush can change a group of disorganized people into a powerful mob.
This is assuming they are not speaking, or that the situation is already violent.

Points of note when considering such things:
Most things that you think are cover are not. A door will not stop a bullet, a brick wall will not stop a bullet. A concrete wall will not stop a bullet. The only things that reliably stop bullets are Sand, water, and layers of concrete or steel.
If someone asks to bind your hands, kill them. If they want to bind your hands and they are not police or a sexy lady who has already set out a 'safe word' then they intend to kill you. Your only option is to kill them first.
When in close range of someone with a gun, do not grab the barrel of the gun. If it is a semi-auto, then the action of the slide will rip your hand off of the gun, preventing you from controling it, and if it is a revolver, then powder from the cylinder will burn your hand. Grab the mag well, the bottom of the grip, and push up, which will move the barrel upwards. If trying to get a gun out of someone's hands, twist toward the thumb.

So yes, thoughts on things. I'm feeling woozy from donating blood. I'm O+ though, so good times.
