All right - I can't put myself in a political party. I support gay marriage - am I a Democrat? I believe government should have as little influence in people's everyday life as possible - am I a Republican? I think people should be able to choose as they please - am I a Libertarian? I think that too many rules inhibit liberty - am I an Anarchist? I feel very strongly that sometimes big business is detrimental to society - am I a Communist?
Whatever label I ought to strap myself with, I've come to the conclusion that the American government clearly has no common sense at all.
Anyone on the Suspected Terrorist list cannot board an international flight - but they are not subject to blockage through a NIX check.
When an employee of a gun store agrees upon the price of a gun with a prospective buyer, they must obtain certain information from said buyer. This information includes name, home address, social security number, and things of that nature. Before one is allowed to sell a firearm to said customer, one must call into the FBI's automated service, the NIX check, and enter such information to insure that the customer is not, say, someone whom selling guns to could be a poor idea. People whom the NIX blocks include ex-convicts and the mentally insane.
THAT MEANS THAT ANYONE ON THE SUSPECTED TERRORIST LIST CAN BUY ANY GUN THEY PLEASE.
(that is an overstatement. they cannot purchase handguns without proper authorization from local authorities. but i personally am much more afraid of someone with a sawed-off shotgun with a pistol grip than someone with a .22 recreation pistol)
The Winchester 12 gauge pump-action shotgun is considered one of the deadliest short-range weapons in the world, and, with certain modifications, is used by many law-enforcement agencies across the globe.
At the gun store where I once worked, according to this law, someone on the SUSPECTED TERRORIST list could obtain such a WEAPON for $249.99, plus ammunition.
