Note to self: You know more than you think. Remember this. Please, remember this.
Shout out to
lechristophe. Amazing person and amazing friend. Thank you for helping me study for my chem midterm, and for just... always being there. You deserve all the best the world has to offer, C. Seriously. <3
Steph...last year, despite working double shifts and facing an imposing courseload on top of it, you put considerable time and thought into counseling me through problems ranging from personal insecurities, to a social phobia, to motivating me to study for my PhD orals in the endless hours I needed to with my dyslexia. The way in which you engage people by listening and understanding instead of just thinking of yourself and being noticed, and in which you exude charisma without overpowering, served as a personal model to me. You did all this after having only just met me, for no reason I can comprehend except that it's just the kind of person you inherently are - and you've never asked for a single thing in return. Not once.
So I'm not sure if you realize this, but the wonderful social life and meaningful friendships I have now, the confidence to pursue an active life without fear of being judged or criticized, and even the fact that I still have the career I do - those are ALL things that wouldn't have happened had I never met you. In a very real sense, you were the person who appeared to lead me on the path to both my self-realization both intrinsically and extrinsically, at the very time that I needed it the most. I don't believe in a deity nor in fate, but the manner in which you so serendipitously (to use your favorite word) entered and so profoundly changed the entire subsequent course of my life for the better makes me seriously question that conviction!
You've been the greatest friend, and the kindest person I've ever known. I only wish by all the stars that surround us that there was some way I could make it up to you :)
