You have no idea how comforting these recaps are to me. I am someone who tends to find fault quite a lot, and I didn't really like this episode, and I'm having major problems with Merlin and Arthur at the moment, but this recap still makes me feel all warm and benevolent towards the show. I don't know how you do that, really, but it's something I envy!
God, Uther, though. What a bastard. Of all the people who could have come back, we had to get the nastiest. (I'd picked up plenty of plot holes in this episode, but I hadn't noticed the one about Merlin and the, er, horn - why on earth couldn't he go and talk to his dad?)
Omfg, this episode was absolutely spectacular and delicious when it comes to Merthur! x33 I'm still recovering from that ending. And the "poetry" bit with Leon was GOLD!! God I love Leon so much!
But omg, I totally agree with you that Uther wanting to kill Arthur was a bit (or actually MORE than a bit) far-fetched. Yes, Uther was an asshole a lot of the time when he was alive, but his love for his children (not only Arthur, but also Morgana) was what made him redeemable and even likeable at times. Yes, Camelot (and his own beliefs, however bigoted they were) were important to him, but not as important as Arthur and Morgana. Nothing was as important as Arthur and Morgana to him. We have seen him do things for them that went against his beliefs (like resorting to magic to heal Morgana, etc.), so for him to want to KILL his own son? Considering he quite literally DIED to protect him from an assassin? Um, yeah, that makes it hard for me to believe
( ... )
Merlin is getting a bit too dark and depressing for my tastes. What happened to the fun little family show of the early seasons?
Loved this episode tho. Arthur gets some development finally and I hope it sticks this time.
And for any concern anyone had that Arthur may have loved his knights more than Merlin in the last two episodes, this proves otherwise.
Folks really think that? Pfft! It's always been Merlin for Arthur. I always felt that Arthur is more guarded around Merlin because their relationship is more important and matters more to him. And also because Arthur has issues. and emotional hangups.
Gwaine is probably playing Angry Birds, because I could just see him, like, really hating on those smug little pigs.
If you look closely Gwaine is sitting next to Percival and taking a nap. He jerks awake when the doors bang open.
I like how Elyan seems to have taken Mordred under his wing.
Thanks for the recap! It makes me enjoy the episode twice as much after reading this.
This episode was SO MUCH FUN! I haven't had this much fun since season 3. Anything that was silly and inconsistent I was totally able to overlook because it was just so cute!
And yeah, I liked Sliders too. It was one of the dumbest shows I've ever seen, yet I had to watch it till it ended, 'cuz I was entertained.
