When I first heard about this Sam Loeb issue, I was so excited because we all know how much I love Conner. And Conner and Tim. And an entire issue devoted to them and their friendship? Bliss! Then, of course, Infinite Crisis happened, and I knew this issue would break my heart. I wasn't wrong. I do think that it was nice that we could mourn Conner and Sam at the same time, and it was a fitting tribute to both. Conner deserved this. And while I didn't know Sam, I gather from the artists and writers who donated their talents to this issue that he did as well.
I wanted to post scans, but then realised that every single page of this issue is worth sharing so just in case you're like me and can't buy a copy anywhere:
Superman/Batman #26.
But if anyone *does* see it for sale anywhere, could you maybe pick me up a copy? I'd reimburse or trade you for it, no problem. It's something I *need* in my collection and I'm not sure if it'll be released to newsagencies (where I have a standing order) here in a few months since it's so special.
And, what the heck, let's throw in a few scans anyway.
The variant cover, I think. And, yeah, pretty much heartbreaking from the word go, isn't it?
Oh, Tim.
Hee! This page has everything I could have hoped for - classic Conner/Tim banter *and* a Batgirl reference from my boy.
And then all the action happens (with the best banter and adventures and fembots!) and we solve the mystery.
So I loved those two pages, because that's how *my* Conner and Tim talk in my head all the time. I mean, the entire issue gave good Conner/Tim, but these were especially mine - the easy, organic dialogue & chemistry I only wish I could write. Then I checked the writer of these pages (amongst the gazillion of guest writers) to be sure, and yep, Joss Whedon. Heh. Wonder who my influences are? *g* (Geoff Johns' pages stood out to me, too, but they *should*, considering.)
And finally:
See icon. Don't forget him. Tell stories about him. *Write* stories about him. Conner Kent/Superboy/Kon-El will live on through us.
