Hee, I had a total Mars night last night with this ep, and 2 eps of Life on Mars...which keeps getting better, btw - I'd urge non-UK people to check it out via torrent if you can.
I don't even know what genre to give you,, maybe sci-fi because of the time travelling, but that could be all a delusion, or maybe 1973 is where we *all* go when we're in limbo. Who knows? *g* Anyway, basicially, a detective from the present is hit by a speeding car and suddenly finds himself in 1973. If you appreciate 70s cop shows for their cheesy clothes and sets (and of course their homoerotica), then you'll love this, trust me. The soundtrack rocks, the cars are awesome, the characters are *fun* (Sam, our time-travelling cop, and Hunt, his superior, have incredible chemistry) and there is the *creepiest* addition of a character in the 2nd episode which just has to be seen (nightmares! so many nightmares!) Also, the cute clueless cop looks like Rove McManus. Seriously freaked me out for a while, but I love him now.
It's interesting to see just how far detective work has come in 30 odd years (No computer databases! No ID technology! Lab results take weeks!) but also how the role of women in society has changed. Everyone seems so surprised that Sam would treat Annie with actual respect and ask her opinion on cases. But it doesn't get bogged down in the preachy side of things, and we conclude that a mix of the old and new ways is probably the best.
The best thing is that any little factual discrepancies incurred between the two timelines can possibly be wanked away as an error in Sam's subconscious. He was 4 years old in 1973, so he's not going to remember it well, and what we see is probably made up from whatever he has gleaned from old tv show reruns anyway. How can you set a definite canon if it's all in our character's head anyway? Awesome.

On to VMars.
Finally, a show gets back on track. And, hey, look at all the stuff that happens once Duncan's out of the picture!
I always thought the rat was the cause of the smell on the bus (until we saw the rat, I figured it was fertiliser). But then I figured that if there *was* such a bad stench, the bus driver would have located the source while the kids were doing the baseball thing. Meh. We shall see.
Logan/Weevil 4 EVA! That totally played out like a gay bashing. Someone sees Weevil secretly meeting Logan in his hotel room, the gang corner him, kick him out for associating with Logan, then beat him up. Dude.
And the first time I watched the ep, I thought the scene where Veronica teased the boys for their totally!spy meeting was kinda cute, but after seeing what *did* happen when they were discovered, seeing Weevil's quiet panic when Veronica was all snark and smiles a 2nd time really made me feel for the guy. He *knew* what was going to happen to him eventually, but he was willing to risk it for the truth, and now he's all alone. Weevil is this season's Veronica. Even down to his pairing with Logan.
What's he gonna do now? Sit at the lunch table with V and Wallace? Hang out with Logan and Dick? Probably not. *g* Poor guy.
Hey! I sing that Elvis Costello song in my head all the time! I've always wondered if someone had vidded it, but then figured the lyrics probably weren't that suitable but they totally made it work at the karaoke night (though poor Lars, why do people keep showing him up, huh?). The guy from Spoon did a pretty good job with it, too.
I'm glad Wallace is getting some story time, really, but can we get rid of Jackie now please? Why is Veronica suddenly tolerating (and recruiting) her now Wallace isn't interested? Wait, I guess we need her around because of her dad...maybe Veronica knows that, too. Also? Wallace's dad is kinda cool. He left so quickly we never really got a chance to know him.
And Cassidy is freaking me out OMG. The kid's been so mentally traumitised his entire life that I'm getting the feeling that as sweet as he may be, he's hiding a nasty bomb-setting, bus-crashing side to him somewhere. I don't know *why* he would do it, but the fact that he almost got a look of sympathy out of Lamb terrifies me.

I just watched the latest JLU (#10) and dude, it gives good Superman.
I love seeing him interact (or not interact) with his super family. They should totally bring Conner into this universe at some point. And Ollie is so, so wonderful and *human* and he kinda rocks hardcore. I love seeing him contrasted with Clark. And I need to go read some Legion comics now.

Drawn Together brings out another Captain Hero ep!
Okay, I'm definitely making some past ep clips next week because hey, you think SV gives good funeral scenes? You ain't see nothin'. *g* I love Hero more and more every week. This time, he gets a sidekick, and the montages (to the Batman theme) are hilarious. Wooldoor dresses in an obvious Robin homage and joins Hero on his adventures against the evil Mad Libber. It's...I...I have no words. Except that I wish Hero could come to Smallville and teach Clark a thing or two...and then pound him into the mattress for a while.
