What the hell just happened?

Q. How many feminists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

A. That's not funny

As some of you may have heard, Andrea Dworkin died recently. Along with Catherine MacKinnon, she did her very best to demonize anything sexual or pornographic and became the American right's darling when it came to the fight against such 'filth'. What really got to me was her portrayal of women as the perennial victim, always awaiting rape of some sort at the hands of the anonymous male. Give me a break. I'd almost search out Camille Paglia to raise a toast if she weren't next on my "Stop making my side look stupid" list.

(A delightfully over-the-top rant against Dworkin and the rest of her feminazi ilk)

Now that I've got that out of the way, I have to admit I've been up to a lot of non-academic related stuff lately. Not good, considering my first final's on Friday (Political Theory and International Relations - yay!). In between the odd movie night with Juice and Claire (and a sleepover in Juice's room, which led to me getting a foot in the face from Claire) and various parties, it's been a hell of a week. IRC had a dinner out at Peel last Wednesday. I went to the performance of Verdi's Requiem on Saturday night. I sat up in the balcony with Kate and we spent two hours mocking the Dean's French ("Is that even a word?!"), gagging at the mezzo-soprano, and waving at Amalia and Jess, who were perched on a seat behind us. Later that night I headed up to Doug for the IRC "Youth Leadership Appreciation Night".

Drinky!!!

Here's what I can remember from that night:

- arriving shortly after midnight and finding everyone was already tipsy

- toasting marshmallows in the fireplace and making s'mores (which I haven't done in years)

- Brian trying to get me to play some Mozart vocal piece while he drunkenly sang in German

- watching Malek dance

- playing Truth or dare, and seeing: Brian dancing around wearing nothing more than a strategically placed styrofoam cup, Aleana having to drink out of said cup ("I think I left a pube or two in there!"), two rather nice looking guys doffing their shirts and making out on command, two girls making out on Ryan's lap (a la first year formal), watching Malek make out with another girl (umm....yeah).

- being dared to kiss Aleana's ear for 7 seconds, and having her tell me afterwards that it was the best ear kiss she'd ever gotten

- playing Spin The Bottle and locking lips with Jake, Brian, Aleana and Elysia...rock

- watching Jake perform a lapdance for Sameer, and then having Aleana do one for Kay (winner: Aleana by a mile)

- all 5 guys giving us a performance of  "I Want It That Way"

It was a special night...one that I actually remember

Last night was another movie night in the TV room with Juice, Claire, Nora and Jeremy. We watched "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", which provided some eerily similar impersonation of some of my Italian family members. On the plus side, we made potato smileys. On the downside, I burned my finger on the oven door :(
