I can only rant about this to those who care, but I can come up with 1,000 reasons why the Ducks shouldn't win tonight. Just a few in summation.
1. The fans: I have NEVER in my life watched an NHL playoff series where fans in a team's home rink were booing officials for calling off sides. This doesn't even happen in other hockey-retarded cities like Atlanta. Anaheim has proven to me they have the least hockey smart fans on the planet. These fans deserve to watch their team skate the Cup? I think not.
2. The NHL's detractors have been chirping of it's irrelevance among the major sports since the lockout ended. Should Anaheim win, they might be right. The NHL might just be irrelevant anymore. Can you imagine being overjoyed if the Tampa Bay Devil Rays won the World Series? How bout if the Houston Texans won the Super Bowl? Anaheim wouldn't be an NHL city if it weren't for Gary Bettman being the worst commisioner in all sports. Anaheim wins the Cup tonight and the league slides a few more notches down the respect scale. All those people who think the NHL doesn't matter, well, it could be that they're about to be right. It will hurt the NHL if Anaheim wins. The Kings and Sharks have strong fanbases who are knowledgeable about hockey, and both of these teams have some history in the NHL.
3. Ryan Getzlaf. I won't even call this jackass a man. This player is the single biggest hack and crybaby I have ever seen. At least when jackasses like Darcy Tucket hack and get sent to the box they man up about it. Getzlaf? He cries like an infant. It was great watching him get torched by Alfredsson on that shorty goal. This is the guy you think shot at your captain last game and you refuse to touch him? What a pussy. This clown deserves no respect.
4. They're the Ducks. Do I even need to say anything more? They were born out of an atrocious series of Disney movies. A bunch of (allegedly) grown men skating around wearing jerseys donning the name "Mighty Ducks" originally and now "Ducks". Yeah, that equals respect. They would've been playing a pivotal game rather than an elimination game tonight, had the officials managed to notice that Dustin Penner was three feet offside on Anaheims winning goal in game 4. Talk about crap.
The game I love is about 20 minutes away from forever being cheapened, soiled, disgraced. I am as sad as they get. CHampions or not, I have never, do not and will never respect the Ducks.
Tis a sad day indeed.
