NoNAIS.org

The NAIS law has just been passed in Texas, and is now trying to weasel its way into other states as well. This law requires all livestock animals to be registered and tagged. This does not exclude small farm animals kept for personal enjoyment. The really fun part is that you have to pay a fee to have your animals registered, and you have to do it every year. If you don't, you will be fined $1000.

But if you have a flock of chickens, even a small one, the registration fee is going to hurt. In many cases, it's going to be too much for the small farm owner and the homesteader to pay. Eventually it will just be too expensive to have a small farm. So what will be left? Only the larger cattle ranches and such. And that means the price of meat will go up, and the selection will go down. You will no longer be able to find free range eggs. And of course any kind of old-fashioned independence will be a thing of the past.

Seriously, people... This is going to destroy us. Some of you may have no idea of how important small family farms are. Well, I hope you pass this along anyway.
