Got a magical card from
james, who shared a fantastic Dia de los Muertos skull print mask - it's rosy pink with flowers and skulls! Totally perfect for days I feel festive. I hadn't seen any more e-mails about the apt inspections, but when I checked the mail there was a form notice from the property manager - my inspection date is set for the 25th, which gives me plenty of time to handle the small crap I'd like to have done before they arrive. I think that's a Tuesday, so I *might* be off work, but by then I could be back to work full time. Em3 hasn't mentioned changing my schedule, but with school starting in a couple of weeks, it'll have to happen eventually, right?

I am ACME's Mask Police! I've been stopping people coming in without them all along, as ACME was still requiring them, and then giving masks to those who didn't have one with them. But Friday the Statewide mask mandate went into effect, requiring them in all indoor public spaces - businesses, offices, etc. So now it really matters. I mean, one manager and I joke about it (we're both vaccinated) but have still been wearing them. I think I need to ask Em3 how I can get more - I don't have any kids' masks (everyone over the age of 5 must be masked) and will run out of those ACME provided ages ago.

Near-Perfect Cave Lion Cub Corpse Found in Siberian Permafrost
Scientists discover two mummified cubs estimated to be approximately 28,000 and 43,000 years old
the video shows scientists examining a dead lion cub. They take hair samples from the tiny corpse, which looks like it might have died only a few days ago. In fact, it has been deceased for nearly 30 millennia-covered in permafrost in Siberia until recently.

Question of the Day
Do you prefer bright colors, dark colors, or pastel colors?
it depends a bit on what is coloured. for decor, dark with bright accents. for clothing, it varies a bit. for years I mostly wore dark stuff, but somehow over time I've gradually obtained tons of brighter shirts - red, purple, various shades of berry or pink. I still think of dark green as my fave colour, but oddly I don't have a lot of that in my wardrobe.

I'd never heard of this artist, but she's talented, and inspiring! The Legacy of Artist Audrey Flack - ... Flack-a pioneering photorealist painter, sculptor of monumental bronze, and an artist who has works in museum collections ranging from MoMA to the National Gallery of Australia-still sees no end to her creativity. “Titian made art into his late 80s and I’m now past that. I always wanted to paint like an old master, or rather an old mistress,” she says just after celebrating her 90th birthday in May. “A radical contemporary old mistress.”

grabbing a parry knife and the banana makes me wonder how the banana was armed.

Don't do this at home!
An absolutely wonderful tale of a 'dog' adoption that could have turned out not-so-good, but was fated.

This article on How to Watch the Perseid Meteor Shower, is interesting, though I never manage to see them - either visibility is crap, or I just plain forget to look. But I've always been vaguely aware, as Rica loved all things astronomical, and took every opportunity possible (before her health became so fragile), to see the meteor shower. She died a year ago today - it's still sometimes hard to remember I can't call/e-mail her.

The heat is clearly getting to Olivier; there's usually a drift of fluffy cat hair on the hardwood floor along the baseboards, but ever since our (literal) killer heat wave in June, there have been so many larger tufts of fur on the floor, and especially on the living room rug. He's not looking bald or anything, but the excessive floof obviously had to go.

Lewis fic rec:
The Oxford Crown Affair by
Lindenharp
Summary: Robbie is asked to help a hill-kin couple near Oxford whose young daughter is doing strange things. This is part 4 of an AU series and will not make much any sense if you haven't read the earlier stories.

Part 4 of the Faerie Tales series - in which Robbie is a Fae prince, who fully comes into his powers and becomes the Lord of Oxenford, responsible for the hill-kin (those with some traces of fae blood) in his area. as the author stated, you really need to read the earlier stories in the series for this to make any sense, but if you like Robbie and James, and kinda magical AUs, you might give it a try.
