Luke Prokop Comes Out As Gay And Makes NHL History - Nashville Predators prospect Luke Prokop has come out as gay, becoming the first active player under contract to an NHL team to do so. Here's his letter announcing he was gay. It's great someone took this big step. Congrats to him for his bravery - standing out as different in any way isn't a major hockey trait. Good to see his team is behind him - I just hope the opposing fans won't be complete shits (though I bet at least some will be). There's an excellent (and lengthy) interview with Prokop on The Athletic, which is a subscription site. If you want to read it and there's a paywall, lmk, and I can c&p the article and get it to you.

This is one hell of a quote. I'd be really interested in seeing what happens when she's in court.

Even living in a small town in Oregon, I heard about Chez Panisse in the 70s; Portland has since become something of a foodie mecca. Although I don't dine out often at the sorts of places which produce this sort of good food, I do value the basic principles. ‘Local, organic, sustainable’ are common buzzwords on American menus now, but it wasn’t always that way
Today, Americans value local, seasonal and artisanal products on restaurant menus and at the market. The importance of starting with good-quality ingredients seems so obvious that it’s hard to understand why this was an alien idea 50 years ago.

They've released the available/protected lists for the Kraken expansion draft - here are the Capitals lists. I've gotta say, there were a few surprises on the available list - especially Ovi! I sure wasn't expecting to see him there - wonder if that's because he's still not nailed down a new contract, or if he's actually interested in possibly making a change (though that doesn't jibe with stuff he's said in the past about spending his career in DC).

As seen on twitter: Jesus drove a Honda. It even says in the bible, "All the disciples were in one accord."

Happily, my taste buds seem to be normalish again - at least, the stuff I ate at various times during the day all tasted pretty much as expected, which is great. I much prefer my food to taste like food, not wallpaper paste.

Aurelia throws around phrases like, “Can we turn the telly on?” A reference to the water closet instead of the bathroom initially threw off Ms. Ouellette. “I was like, ‘Where did she learn that from? in his cruise to protect isn't talking about a nice river trip in a gunboat, but rather a 'crusade'. The author misused this word several times, and the first time I read it I honestly couldn't figure out what xie meant. It took coming across this phrase later on to clarify its intent for me.

This overview of the more common draft horses is pretty cool - these guys are BIG!

I was vaguely aware that Ovi had been pursuing advanced education, but hadn't kept up on that - it's so cool that he managed to get to this stage, considering how busy hockey keeps him. Talked to mom, apparently my failure to go down depressed her more than I knew, though she says that she's doing better now. She's not seen any of the fam for more than a handful of visits, 30-45 minutes max each time. In fact, she says she called my sister & left a message several days ago, but never heard back. She had hoped for some sessions with people to go through things, and see what folks wanted, as she's seriously trying to clear out decades worth of papers and 'stuff' but they're really not making themselves available. I feel for her, but even if I had made it down that wouldn't have magically made others clear their schedules. I'm trying to convince her to just do as she wishes with things - if she thinks someone might like something but they don't respond, it's on them if it vanishes elsewhere. Like the bro - he's not at all responsive to any of us, and so if he misses out on some treasure or trinket, too bad. Sadly, I'm more than half convinced that if something tragic happens we'll have to contact B to get word to him, since the avoidance is most likely to continue.

One thing she asked me about was a small notebooks - a log of their travel to and from DC, where dad was stationed and I was born. It's basically notations of where they gassed up, how many gallons and sometimes the price per gallon. Obviously, I don't recall either trip, as I was about a year old on the return trip, but mom said I was the only other one involved in any way, so I'm gonna get it. May not keep it forever, but it should be interesting to at least track their routes. When they returned to Oregon, they packed the footwells in the backseat to seat level, then put my crib mattress over it so I had my own sleeping/play area during the drive. Terribly unsafe, but since carseats weren't a thing, it worked. Just glad there was no brake slamming, cuz I probably would have torpedoed out the windshield.
