this is why people don't like talking to me irl

So I'm a budding weather geek! Partially thanks to the meteorology classes I've been taking. (I'm currently in Severe and Hazardous Weather, very apropos.)

Mix of incredible excitement and horror for current severe weather. I was watching several live feeds of yesterday's tornado outbreak for hours. I also gave in and started using my twitter account to track the Weather Channel and #tornado. Video and photos went up incredibly quickly.

Have also been monitoring twitter/CNN/TWC/etc for the death toll. It was around 280-290 the last time I checked. That really is a high number of casualties considering the warning systems we have today. The amount of very severe tornadoes, the population of the area, and the amount of mobile homes are all contributing factors.

The amount of tornadoes in 24 hours and the number of deaths are set to rival the Superoutbreak of 1974. (148 tornadoes, around 315 deaths)
The deadliest tornado is US history was the Tri-State tornado of 1925, about which I am writing a paper for my class. There were 695 confirmed deaths.

This site has eight incredible videos of yesterday's storm.
- The third video on the list (which I believe was taken by a videographer from the University of Alabama) is absolutely gorgeous. Look at the horizontal vortices! Poor guy's having a panic attack, though. I recognize the breathing from experience D:

Might add more later.

Also: Dear American news channels: Please reduce the amount of coverage on the royal wedding. I'm not sure it's physically possible for me to care any less. We live in a country where they teach us to hate monarchy from the moment we're old enough to learn about the American Revolution! And there's been a massive natural disaster with hundreds of people dead! This is compelling news! Have some priorities.
