There’re two kinds of sufferers in this world: those who suffer from a lack of life, and those who suffer from an overabundance of life. (  )

I find it curious that the first paragraph suggests that humans aren't animals.

Fear or Laziness?
That's a tough one, since they are both directly connected to the survival instinct we humans have.
I may have to settle on laziness. Humans who can easily survive in this world will inevitably become complacent (e.g. the suburbs of America), a collection of people with no ambition to move forward.
Fear is removed, or maybe that was the point of the question.

I’d bet on laziness as well.

You know it’s generally believed that since humans have culture, arts etc. they’re a superior species. As a would-be linguist at university, i was taught that humans aren’t animals because they alone have verbal language. I guess the reason given to you was that we have law, huh?
But of course we never know what animals have.

What do you think of Darwin by the way?

I believe law was included in the reasons I was given.
I've read that gorillas craft basic tools and have been known to use weapons (like sticks) to defend themselves. They have social networks and personalities. Some gorillas are introverted and some extroverted.

Perhaps I like the idea of being just another one of the animals because being superior is too much responsibility :)

I think Darwin had many good ideas like his paper on the rising land mass of South America and his innovative study on Wild Orchids and cross pollination.
Oh, and his stuff on Natural Selection wasn't bad either :)

Phew! I asked because once we had some exchange students from Bryan College, Tennessee, and our professors warned us against ever bringing up Darwin, as our dear guests would definitely be insulted by the name, let alone cross pollination :) The Bible was a safe subject… if treated with due respect of course :)

I think like human people
animals survive fear
only laziness is the beautiful
human speciality

Come on, didn't you ever see your cat basking in the sun or near a fire? Isn't it laziness??
There's nothing solely human, we're just too presumptuous (hello, ego!) to admit we're but a species of animals.

no, Dina, it is not human ego.
there is no laziness for animals
because there is no idea of work for them.

I meant that when we claim our superiority over animals it’s the ego doing its job.

Both work and laziness are human concepts, so if we as humans judge animals, we can’t but apply our concepts to them. Besides, though Oblomov didn’t work, he knew perfectly well what laziness is about. :)
