Prehistoric Instruments Will Rock Paris | Science/AAAS | NewsThe “rock” music of our ancestors will make a comeback this weekend in Paris, The Telegraph reports. Twenty-four stone chimes, dating back to the New Stone Age between the years 2500 and 8000 B.C.E., will make music again at a concert series conducted by the French National Orchestra and the National Museum of Natural History in Paris. The instruments, called lithophones, will be played xylophone-style by percussionists in a piece called Paléomusique, which was written to showcase the ancient chimes’ sound. To prevent damaging the instruments, these performances will mark the last time the stones are ever played.
