For 10 days, post a picture (DVD cover/poster) of a movie you like.
Today's movie is Singing in the Rain.
It's set in the movie industry during the advent of talking pictures. Lockwood and Lamont (Gene Kelly and Jean Hagen) are Monumental Pictures' biggest stars. Fortunately for Don Lockwood, he can act, sing, and dance. Unfortunately for Lina, Don, and Monumental, Lina can do none of those things and her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.
Cue talking pictures and Lina's in trouble.
True confession: I dislike Gene Kelly. I bear with him in this film because the film is just that awesome (though I could easily fast forward through Gene's 'Singng in the Rain' dance).
There. Are you shocked?
The female star of the film is Debbie Reynolds as Kathy Seldon, a singer/dancer/actress who's destined for stardom, if Lina doesn't derail her career. Gene Kelly is (obviously) the male star, but he's flanked by Donald O'Connor as Cosmo Brown, Don's best friend from childhood.
My favourite characters are Lina Lamont and Cosmo. Lina especially. I adore the beginning bit where Lina doesn't talk at all. It cracks me up every time. Lina's the best, from her, "I can't make love to a bush!" to "I am a shimmering, glowing star in the cinema firmament. It says so. Right there." Oh, Lina, never change.
The film's considered to be a classic, and rightly so.
